newbie with a burning nose

I would like to know if any others experience severe nasal burning after falling into what seems like a nice sleep

Welcome HenDry,

Sometime's, I feel burning in my nose... ,that is usually when my Heated Humidifier runs out of water and I wake up and have to add more "distilled water" to the tank, I do remember using a nasal mask called the "Hybrid" and that happened to me, I really think I had smoke coming out of my "nose" and the funny thing is, My heated humidifier was almost to the full mark so, "who knows"???

I'm a newbie too. The only time so far i have had burning nose was during my titration study which didn't have a humidifier. So far so good i guess.

Hendry, this may be an odd question to ask you, but... you do push the heat button on the machine to turn it on each time, I trust? The integrated heated humidifier the pre-M Respironics machine uses doesn't turn the heat on automatically when you turn the cpap machine on. The humidifier turns "off" automatically when the machine is turned off, but the heat has to be turned "on" separately. A little green light glows on the front base of the humidifier when it's "on."

A thought -- if your room is rather cold, and if the main air hose is bare (no hose cover), it's possible that the heated humidification is being lost on the long journey from humidifier to you. Lost in the form of condensation (rainout) along the inside walls of the air hose. Depending on how you have the main air hose routed, the condensation may be rolling back down toward the humidifier. If they were rolling toward you, the water hitting your face or dripping into your nose would probably wake you. A few times when I've had rainout, the water spraying into my nostrils did sting and burn, but since you didn't mention water droplets, I guess that's not happening to you.

Another possibility... I've occasionally had burning in my nostrils when I've tried to go without taping over my mouth. I'm a mouth breather during sleep, and I don't like FF masks, so I put tape over my mouth to prevent mouth breathing. If I don't tape and do end up mouth breathing a lot, sometimes I'll wake up to burning nostrils even though the humidifier is on. I really don't know why mouth breathing would have that effect (stinging, burning nostrils) despite heated humidification going...but I've had that happen to me.
