Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!

Sorry to hear about your new and expensive glasses, I loved your story though...

I didn't read all the posts above but did anyone mention using "WIRE HANGER" yet???

Just get out the old handy pliers and attach 2,3,4,or however many needed to get the job done and leave a hook on the end so that you can snag the glasses with it like we used to when we would lock our keys in our car, well just another thought for you to think about trying!

Goodluck,

Hey Marsha,
My $.02......
Go with the carbonman solution....it's one of the beauties of PVC -- cut it, let the glasses slide out, and glue it back together.....
Quick, dirty, no fuss, a little muss.......

cheers

GOT 'EM!!!!

First, I went to the Juniata County Home Depot Outlet, which thankfully is open 24/7. (I have an in with the owner.) What to my wondering eyes did appear but an 8-foot-long piece of 12-3 electrical wire, and I thought it would provide the slight rigidity that -SWS had mentioned. Using Tuna's idea of a treble hook and -SWS's mod of a DIY version, I bent one end of the wire and attached two bent paper clips with (what else???) duct tape. It took a couple of tries and minor adjustments to the angles of the wire and paper clips, but the whole procedure took less than five minutes -- after many minutes of R&D provided by all of you. Turns out the glasses were juuuust out of sight, sitting in the curve of the first 45-degree elbow. They came up still folded, a bit dusty and in otherwise perfect condition.

THEN I carefully placed Sleepycarol's suggested piece of screening I had cut while at the JCHDO (and you thought I forgot...ha!!) on top of the pipes. Didn't even need to secure it. Just stays right in place, even when the heat's running.

YOU GUYS ROCK!!! Ain't life just one tap dance after another?

Night!!

Coincidentally, I broke one of my contact lenses when attempting to put them back in this morning.....it took about another hour of rummaging around to find another one close to my current prescription....but still felt a little cock-eyed all day...!

Where is your "fighting" spirit? That ain't no (yea I know terrible English) fun!!!!!!!

There is a challenge there, a beaconing, a call, a whispering, saying you must not let "them" win!!

I, too, would have had to try to retrieve them -- no doubt about it!! It is in my blood!!

Glad you found my suggestion useful Songbird.

Marsha, glad to read about the happy ending (hopefully not fiction this time!!!!) - but do us a favor, and secure the covering to the pipe - otherwise we'll be reading about how you tripped and fell into the pipe and was stuck there for a week (without your CPAP machine!!!!)

Kopoloff, if buying a new pair of glasses would be your first choice, I want your annual income level. And Sleepycarol's right (and said it SO well; I'm with you 100%!!).... where's the fun in that?

No, no fiction this time, Gary. Got 'em on my face. The tripping part is an understandable concern, and I appreciate it. You'd have no way of knowing this, but all of the holes for the "new" ductwork are along walls, and none of them are along walkways, so I'm not at all concerned about tripping on any of them. But fall into the pipe??? Gary, it's a 3" PVC pipe. I'm not Thumbelina!!

Yeah, gotta be careful falling into stuff. My wife's 86 year old sister fell backwards into an empty box that was well built and just the right size to jackknife her in tight. Also the box was "boxed in" so she was simply stuck. She said she had resigned herself to spend the night that way when her great granddaughter wandered into the bedroom. I guess her eyes about popped out of her head, but she ran a got her mom who with her dad lifted poor granny out.

Let me tell you - you do not want my annual income, unless you get it monthly.

Especially since I spent it all on CPAP equipment!!

Actually, I love it when I get a problem like this one - I will spend hours finding a solution to a problem, just for the hell of it, even to save 50 cents.

In my workplace I fix ererything. Everything. Sometimes they then have to be thrown out because they're totally useless, but at least I 'fixed' them. My staff laugh at me!

So, you get those glasses girl, even if you have to use a jack hammer and kubota and then relay the floor.

Cheers
