Undocumented Feature?

Post by rocketdork » Wed Dec 10, 2008 5:46 pm

I have found that if I put on my mask and breath in and out once or twice, the machine turns on...I kind of like it.

Anyone else have the same experience?

My tank (Respironics RemStar Auto) did that ... but I definitely knew about it ahead of time, can't remember if it was in the manual or the respiratory therapist told me.

Yep, I think most machines are set up that way -- in some, if I remember correctly, you can disable that feature and in others you can't.

My machine does it -- and it has an auto off feature as well (that is turned off).

It is a safety design that machines have.

The feature is called "auto on" - to use it with a FFM you might have to cover up the anti asphyxia valve with your finger. I have found some masks are more sensitive than others.

I am not sure all CPAPs have it as I had acquired an Everest a week ago and I couldn't turn it on except using the button on the machine.

The Sandman doesn't have auto-on.

AutoOn, AutoOff are NOT features that I even like!!! I always turned those options off. Then I get this darn VPAP Auto and I can't turn off the SmartStart. I HATE IT!

Hi Slinky,
I checked out your Clinical Manual, (http://www.internetage.ws/cpapdata/manu ... manual.pdf) and you're right as usual but you may be able to turn off Smart Stop. SmartStop is configurable from the clinician’s menu.

You probably know this already but it might help.

I'm finding Auto-On doesn't always work in my Auto M. It works when I go to bed, but after my midnight run I put the mask on and am almost asleep when I realize it didn't turn on yet. That only happens a couple times a week but the last time I "think" I fell asleep and woke a few minutes later. With AFLEX being so natural, I can only tell by the Vader sound.

With the ResMed you can't enable SmartStart with a full face mask - Slinky, maybe if you configure for a FF mask it will disable it?

I don't get a "vader" sound with the SwiftLT and S8II.

Thanks. Giggle. Makes one wonder tho - which is the bigger PITA, putting up w/the SmartStart or doing your own math for the Leak rate. I think I'm gonna opt for trying to stop the SmartStart and to heck w/the math!!! I don't get any DarthVader sounds 'cause I hold my breath until I have my mask fit, etc. where I want. And I gotta say. BirdShell and I have two MUCHO QUIET xPAPs!!!! Both of us in the same hotel room, xPAPs side by side on the night stand and you couldn't hear a thing from those xPAPs unless you laid there and REALLY CONCENTRATED on trying to hear something, anything.
