Resmed's Mask Experience Survey

Post by Slinky » Sat Dec 06, 2008 8:56 pm

I got a pretty good chucklet when going thru their survey results.

73% of the respondents had been on CPAP therapy 1 or more years.
And 40% of the respondents were in contact w/their equipment provider once a year OR LESS.

I wonder if Resmed picked up on the lack of contact between provider and patient? You think?

The survery was conducted amongst just Resmed users. Those who have a Resmed registered at myresmed.com to enroll their device by serial number for the warranty, etc.

I'm not sure that others can access the survey but here is the URL just in case:

Thanks for the link slinky!

The gender ratio and age ranges are also very telling (though they may be biased towards online participation).

How frequently are you in contact with your equipment provider?
5% More than once a month
10% Once a month
21% Every 2-5 months
25% Every 6-9 mos
40% Once a year or less

WOW.....we would think....but, judging by the stories we hear, here,
over and over and over.....
they're not thinking.......ya' think.

Whew, CarbonMan!!! You've got me all "think-ed" out!!

It is just such a sad state of affairs that the manufacturers put all this time and effort into research and development to produce these "smart PAPs" for us and then have to rely on the local DME supplier's RT to educate, support and advise the patients. We have these unenlightened sleep "doctors" who took up sleep medicine as a sub-specialty only because they see it as an easy cash cow. They have no interest in, feel threatened by or are convinced of their own superiority over the data the newer CPAPs can provide. And far too many of the local DME RT's don't bother to look past the Quick Setup Guides and swallow the manager's "tales" regarding equipment and insurance coverage.

I keep wondering who's getting all those "smart PAPs".....because the vast majority of people who show up on the forums have been given the "DS100", "Plus", "Escape", "420G" and other low-end, non-data-capable, "profit makers".
And, then they have to fight tooth and nail to get a "smarter" one.

I had to chuckle when I read this one:
"However, we were surprised to see that many patients are not replacing their masks. To make sure your therapy is as comfortable as possible, you should replace your mask regularly."

Translation......HOLY CRAP, we're missing out on sales!

Yeah, but, DON'T try to get a new mask before the six months for the headgear!!! "Ain't" no way the local DME is gonna sell just the mask, and most of them aren't gonna supply the cushions separate from the mask and headgear either - at least not w/o a fight and your insurance's "accessories" schedule shoved under their nose and/or down their throat. Its the mask and headgear, the whole mask and headgear and nothng but the mask and headgear, so help them god of local DMEs. "Ain't" doing no parts, no piecemeals, just the entire mask and headgear every six months. IF that is your insurance's schedule, now if your insurance replaces as needed .... don't call us, we'll call you.

Actaully , i think that question on replacing the mask was a bit ambiguous. Do they mean the entire mask, or just the seal? And how did the people taking the survey interpret that? But maybe it's a moot point since the replacement schedules allow for an entire new mask ??
