time for a new mask?

Post by franek1 » Sat Nov 29, 2008 9:45 am

I have been using the Breeze nasal mask for over 2 yrs now and have recently, in the past few months, been waking up with headaches again, waking up often during the night, been tired-it is like I am back at square one before being diagnosed.... Do I need a new mask possibly or should i have a "re-check" sleep study-if there is such a thing?
any advice is appreciated
thanks

Two years is a long time for a mask - typically 6 months is what's recommended. There is actually a wide range in people's experiences but since you're having symptoms, imho a new mask would be a good place to start - it's a lot cheaper and easier than a repeat sleep study. If new mask doesn't help, then I would look at other options.

My Breeze is over 2 1/2 years old and still going.
However the pillows have been replaced once and a few running repairs made.
The main thing is to keep it adjusted properly especially the straps.

Since you're using a nasal mask, are you using anything to keep your mouth shut at night?......Tape? Polident adhesive denture strips?
Your symptoms are typical of those who have been mouth-leaking their therapy air. (essentially it amounts to little or no therapy)

Den
(5) REMstar Autos w/C-Flex & (6) REMstar Pro 2 CPAPs w/C-Flex - Pressure Setting = 14 cm.
"Passover" Humidification - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF - Encore Pro w/Card Reader & MyEncore software - Chiroflow pillow

Good point Den. I was gonna say a sign the pressure was not right. But yea, if mouth leaking then the pressure wouldn't be right.

I doubt using the same mask would be a "root cause" unless the mask has some problems. Do you have a data capable machine?
