Got some data, but what now???

Post by bucko » Thu Nov 27, 2008 10:49 pm

I am pulling out my hair trying to figure out whats up with my data. I hope you all can give me an idea where I need to go based on this data from 11/22-11/27. Please be kind about as to where I "can go". I get enough feedback for my wife!
Seriously, I really need some setting ideas here.
Please not that the last two nights I used tape to seal my mouth. This resulted in me waking up in the morning with a sore throat and a very dry mouth. The first night I slept on my side but last night I slept on my back which is my normal position. Also on the second night I did wake up once or twice with my mouth filled with air and it was leaking past the tape a little.

Thanks for all you guy's support.

I can't understand how you could be taping correctly and have that bad of a leak rate, it's a train wreck. With that leak going on the data would be subspect too. If I were you I'd find a good fitting FF mask, and try to live with it. the mask you are using now isn't working because of the leaks.

I'd also pull the top pressure back a little, more pressure doesn't help if it leaks, but the main thing is controlling the leaks. 8 cm to 12 CM or 13 Cm, probably will work after the leaks are under comtrol. Jim

I strongly recommend a full face mask too. I used to have nasal mask, but I mouth-leaked so much
that after couple of hours I woke up an I had to take the mask off. My throat got too sore to wear it.
After switching to the full face mask, no more sore throat, and practically no more dry mouth.
My pressure has been 12 cm, but I'm now on APAP.

I guess that a FFM might be easier to get sealed.

my guess:

1. I don't think the mask you are using is working out very well for you.
2. You need to move Minimum pressure to 11 cm.
3. You need to move Maximum pressure to 20 cm.
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Thank you all for the feedback, but take a look at this. Last night (page 5) I did not tape my mouth. I only changed the C-Flex setting to 3 (from 1) and turned up the humidifier to 4 (from 3). Why would my numbers changed so much for the better now? Compare it with page 4
Last night I did sleep noticeably better and longer. Plus I woke up with no sore throat or dry mouth. The machine did however make more noise during the night. Or so my wife tells me.
I forgot to mention that on page 4 data, this was the night I installed my hose cover I had made using a terrycloth towel. Cost me 5 RMB
($0.75) to have made for me. BUT, it was tight fitting so I turned on the CPAP and let it run about 15 minutes to blow air while I got the cover slipped over the hose. This "leak" on the data is only the hose install time.....

I would guess it was because your FL was better. (Less Congested) The leak factor was a little better, but still too much for good results. i'd still want to see a FF mask and leaks under control. Jim

Some nights are better than others, trying to compare results day to day can make you dizzy, been there done that, when I first started APAP. The good numbers I was getting while on CPAP went into the crapper when I was chasing the sweet spot. But I caught it!
