Trouble exhaling

Post by hevvyeyes » Fri Nov 28, 2008 8:51 am

I am a new user of cpap therapy. I had no problem using the machine they provided to test my levels for 6 nights. The seventh night I had overfilled the humidifier. I woke up with a feeling of suffocation, I couldn't exhale, and removed my mask at the beginning of the night. I assumed it was because of overfilling that this happened.
The next day, yesterday, I went and had my levels read and had my machine set. All seemed well. Guess what? When I went to bed and tried to use my machine I had trouble exhaling on the lowest setting and was next thing to impossible on the highest. It is so bad it blows the seal out at times from my face on the ff mask I have; my ears pop and chest hurts trying to use it.
The office I went to is closed for the next four days. Any ideas on what is going on? Did I do something to my mask when I cleaned it? I watched the video and read the info on it and just can't seem to find anything wrong. I am using the mirage quattro full face mask.
Any help would be appreciated as my apnea is severe, 75 times per hour, and I want that feel human feeling back.

You haven't told us which machine you're using. It could be that the place you took your machine to changed some settings and that's why you're having problems. If your machine has exhale relief (C-Flex or EPR), they may have turned it off.
Please go into your "Profile" on the forum (User Control Panel) and list your equipment and pressure (if you know what it is or is supposed to be).

The machine they tested me on had exhale relief as mine does not. However I still had their machine when the problem occurred on the last night I used it.
I have a remstar plus that does not have the c-flex feature.I am not sure what the machine was they had.

You really haven't told us much. I know you think you did but what does this mean?

What levels? Did you bring in the card or the whole machine? Make & model of the machine AND the mask are helpful tidbits. Did you see them doing anything? Do you know what your pressure settings are or should be?

I'm gonna make a leap here and guess (as requested) your hose is blocked up?? with water? Try dumping your hose. Was it making popping or gurgling sounds?

FWIW- I believe any provider of this type equipment has to have an RT on call. Whether the RT is any good is another story. And you would likely get a faster response here but it is something to keep in mind for emergencies - 24hr 7 day coverage.
