A-Flex ponderings

Post by nomoore » Wed Nov 26, 2008 4:13 pm

Just thinking here... (I love being able to think again)

I have played with A-flex some on my machine and it seems to drop the pressure until it detects you inhaling again. I have exhaled and consciously did not inhale for a bit and A-flex did not raise the pressure back up. Once it actually detects you inhaling then it ups the pressure again. These are just personal observations from feeling the air cushion on my Activa mask.

If this is truly the case, wouldn't you have insufficient pressure to prevent some apneas? I mean if you are having an apnea then you aren't inhaling at all right? How can it detect you inhaling and raise your pressure to the correct pressure if you aren't inhaling due to an apnea caused by the lower pressure? Now I guess you could set it to where the pressure is correct to prevent apneas when you are exhaling and the higher inhale pressure might help to prevent hypopnea or even just flow limitations. Maybe that's how it is meant to be used. It just seems to me that A-flex might defeat the purpose of exhale relief if you have to use a higher pressure because of it.

Does this make sense to anyone? Am I crazy? Did I just dream all this up? Am I thinking too hard? Am I high on CPAP? Should I get treatment for my treatment?

Turn off the Aflex....

Step away from the xpap unit....

Put your hands in the air.....

Now, assume the position!

LOL,
Babs

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

So is that position you refer to in preparation for handcuffs or a straight jacket?

The crazy thing is I don't even like or use A-flex. I just like to think about stuff like that (at least I do when I've slept well).

Can you explain why you don't like Aflex(or Cflex) and why is it better turned off. I finally turned off my hubby's flex because he said it made him "inhale too fast when he wasn't ready ". His breathing does sound more "even", but I would like to get a better description of what he's really feeling. thanks.

I strongly dislike using C-Flex, it is seriously annoying to me.

I had the same problem with A-Flex and eventually turned it off.

I think your breathing system is still pressurized on exhale. Try this - exhale then open your mouth. Air flows out, ritght? Even though you dont feel the air pressure flowing I think the closed system is still pressurized. You also still feel air escaping the mask vent, right?

My aflex vs cflex thing is just that cflex seems to do for me what it says it does, drops the pressure at the beginning of exhalation a bit. aflex seems to want to anticipate too muchfor me and when I am awake, it's irritating.
