New CPAP machine advice
I have been using the Remstar Pro2 by Respironics and, more or less, it’s been fine. I was just notified by my insurance company that it would cover a new machine if I wanted one. Are there newer models that anyone would recommend because they’re better, smaller, quieter, or whatever? Or, is there some revolutionary model expected to come out next year, or anything like that that I should wait for? Thanks for your time.
Re: New CPAP machine advice
Yup, the newer model is the Respironics RemStar M Series Pro w/C-Flex. The M Series is considerably smaller. Quite likely your local DME supplier will require a new script and just as likely your sleep doctor will require a new titration study before he will write a new script.
And, if you go that route, you might as well as ask your sleep doctor to write the script for an APAP. (Nothing ventured, nothing gained). In that case, you'd want to ask for the Respironics RemStar M Series Auto w/A-Flex. The M Series will require a new integrated humidifier as well. IF you CAN'T get the APAP w/C- or A-Flex, you've got the better machine already w/the pre-M Series Pro 2. The M Series isn't one of Respironics' best designed xPAPs. But it IS smaller than the pre-M Series.
Personally, I'd be looking at the Covidien Sandman IntelliPAP Auto w/humidifier or the Resmed S8 Elite II w/EPR or Resmed S8 II AutoSet w/the Humidaire 3i integrated humidifier.
Go ahead and run a comparison of all of the above CPAPs and APAPs at cpap.com and then decide which to try for. Of course, if you already have the EncorePro software and cable reader you might as well stay w/the Respironics unless you're ready to shell out more money for the Sandman or ResScan and cable reader.

Whatever you decide, absolutely get something with software to monitor your sleeping.

Have you been using the Encore software and card reader to monitor your therapy with the Pro 2?Patch wrote:I have been using the Remstar Pro2 by Respironics and, more or less, it’s been fine. I have the same machine and love it (along with the Auto from the Legacy series machines).
Many have reported that the newer M Series machines are noisier and some think they're quieter.....luck of the draw, maybe.
They're actually not that much smaller and have a separate "power brick" (voltage converter).....there were many problems with leaking humidifier tanks (early on, but have been fixed now with re-designed ones).
There also has been the issue with (apparent) dropped nights of detailed data with the M Series.
Do you use C-Flex? What's your pressure?
If it's relatively low, you might be as well off with something like the Sandman Auto from Covidien/Puritan-Bennett.

Re: New CPAP machine advice
Thanks for the responses. To answer the questions, I have not been using the Encore software, and my pressure is currently set at 9. Since my post, I've found alot of choices and information online, and I guess I just need to pick what looks best for me (assuming the insurance company doesn't care which one i get).

Go with a Resmed unit. They are smaller, quieter and more reliable.
