Question about Mouth Leaks

I have seen the DIY mouth appliance for mouth leaks, but am wondering if you could just use a regular double mouthguard? Wouldn't that take away most of the leaking out of the mouth or is there a problem with that??

I wear a mandibular advancement device which is basically a tight mouthguard on the top and bottom hooked together with a pin and I can and do blow lots of air through it.
