Water Issue

Post by skiptown » Sun Nov 16, 2008 9:06 am

My wife has just started with her macine and we are now a two macihine family. She is having water condinsation problems tho. After about four hours sleep her hose starts to sound like a water pipe with the popping sound of air going thru water. I sleep on the other side of the bed and have no problems with my machine. We tried changing the setting on her humidifier but it was no help. Any ideas?

This phenomenon is called "rain out" (so a search on that term will also give you good suggestions).

If she can tolerate it, you might want to turn off the humidifer completely and just use it in "passover mode".

Another idea is to use a hose cover. You can buy Snugglehose, make your own from fleece, or just wrap the hose with some tube socks/cloth/towel.

The last resort (but it really works well), is to use the Aussie heated hose: LINKS to Aussie heated hose - to prevent rainout

The idea is to insulate the hose so it stays warmer, and doesn't cause condensation from contact with the cold air outside the hose.

A question about the Australian Heated hose. How does one go about cleaning it??

take it to the kitchen sink, use the pull-out sprayer, holding both ends over the sink.
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

If you put clean air into it why would it get dirty? I use both filters, it would be hard to find anything in mine. Jim

What is different between your side and hers? That popping sound is water in the hose. Lift the hose to empty back to chamber.

Another solution is to route the hose so that the water that builds up in the hose drains back down into the reservoir. A simple fix is putting the machine on the floor. Since I like having my machine higher up so I can check my data easily, I put a couple of Command hooks on the wall and routed the hose up the wall and then back down and over to the headboard. I was too cheap to buy a hose cover, so I wrapped a towel around held in place by rubber bands, velcro strips, etc. I still got some rainout when I turned the humidifier up, but not the "gloop gloop" noise, which I think is what you are describing. Some have had success with bringing the hose under the covers with them to keep it warm, but that didn't work for me. YMMV. Good luck!
