1st night on auto

Post by deerhound » Mon Nov 10, 2008 9:10 am

Last night I set my BiPAP Auto on auto with a max pressure of 20" and minimum of 11" h2o. I ended up with virtually no leaks and I felt like I was sleeping better. My prescription calls for the machine to be set at 18" max and 10" min. My question is that since the max pressure reached went up to only 13" or so, is this considered to be a therapeutic level? Will it provide me with proper O2 levels just as 18" did during my sleep study. The numbers all look very good on EV report which I am going to try to include. I've never posted an image from photobucket before so I hope this works.

I guess it didn't work. Now how do I make it bigger so you can see it

When I upload onto Photobucket, I use the size - 640x480 (large). That comes through at a readable size on the forum. When you get everything here in you post, click "Preview" and you will see how large it will be on the forum. If it's readable size, then click "Submit".

Hope this helps.

I saved it at 1024 x768 on photobucket. You should have seen how big it was when I tried 1 megabyte file size!

Your numbers do look very good. I can't answer your question though, since I have no experience with bipap. Doesn't look like you need to be in a hurry to change the maximum number yet though. A few more nights of data (at these settings) and how you are feeling after a few more nights will tell you more.

Your report looks great, deerhound!! What a beautiful low leak line, and extremely low AHI! Good job!

Yep, what the machine saw that it needed to use was therapeutic.

Possibly the sleep tech who put you up at 18 during your sleep study was bound and determined to get rid of every trace of everything, or perhaps you were being titrated on your back but sleep on your side at home. Apneas usually hit people worse when sleeping on your back. Or, it could have simply been "one of those nights" and you did need a pressure of 18 during part of the sleep lab night. A sleep study titration is usually trying to find one pressure to take care of worst case scenario....even if that pressure is more than is needed for the majority of the night, or needed at all on many of your nights.

Looks like your machine was handling things very well. Looks like you can trust it to adjust automatically, as it's designed to do, and treat you fine. Very, very nice report!

My edit: clarifying a sentence where I had accidentally left out a couple of words --
"Or, it could have simply been "one of those nights" and you did a pressure during part of the sleep lab night."
Corrected to read:
"Or, it could have simply been "one of those nights" and you did need a pressure of 18 during part of the sleep lab night."

Thanks for the info on how you got that size. I'll probably try it. The size I've been using is a bit small,(readable but could be better).

I can imagine what 1 megabyte was like!!

Glad Rested Gal came along. She knows her stuff!

I'll "echo" what rested gal said, though I know next-to-nothing about Bipaps (and I'm no doctor so just opinions here...)

Your best bet is to keep tracking your results - after a week's time you'll get a better idea of how you're sleeping and how the Bipap is responding. And if you're feeling better, that's the most important part.

If you're worried about your oxygen levels, there are plenty of home pulse-oximeters to choose from. There have been some recent posts reviewing the CMS pulse-ox's - just do a search and you'll find them.

If you were desaturating a lot before therapy, and you don't start feeling better, and you don't want to spend the money on buying one, then one thing you could do is ask your sleep doc to loan you an overnight pulse-ox.

But your leak line and low AHI are definintely to-die-for
