when to replace a CPAP

Post by liv2kite » Mon Nov 10, 2008 12:29 am

How long do DMEs and insurance companies usually 'calculate' is the life of a CPAP machine before they will allow you to request another one ? (Is there any way to answer this ?. FWIW, I have Aetna PPO). My insurance DID tell me they will not cover a second machine for travel. I have 5000 h on mine.

Thanks,

Five years it is. My DME told me that within a couple of years, the size would be very small - like a pack of cigarettes.
I told him I wanted one as soon as it comes out. (I don't know if was just whistling Dixie or not)

If they can do that it would be fantastic. The limiting factor for size in terms of those using humidifier units is the volume of water.

I would like to see units with integrated oximeter recording & reporting abilities.

I guess if the current machine were to break somehow mysteriously one might be in line for a new one.

The limit depends on who's paying, for ease of mind, it pays to have everything backed up. A night without CPAP, doesn't make for a day with sunshine. Even if INS won't help, it's better to plan ahead, you can use you script to buy online and save some of the cost. Jim
