PC 6 Winner: Respironics Performance Tubing

Post by johnnygoodman » Fri Nov 07, 2008 8:49 am

Greetings CPAPtalkers,

Today we announce the results of our sixth product challenge. This challenge compared Respironics Performance Tubing against traditional CPAP.com 6 foot tubing. Both products are well reviewed on CPAP.com but also have their detractors. We wanted to get 50 people together, produce solid data on the pros and cons and serve it to you fresh out of the Product Challenge kitchen. We're proud to have done so and these results help you.

Here is a link to check out the results:

Please keep an eye out for our next challenge, it is going to be the biggest, baddest, most exciting product challenge we've ever done. The lucky participants will receive some superior complimentary equipment at a time when I know finances are tight for many people. Best of all, we will have some very interesting and potentially industry changing results.

I'm excited! CPAPtalk is just getting warmed up.

Johnny

Is this tubing different than the one that Respironics supplies with their machines?

I've been wondering how folks are chosen for participation in these trials of equipment, Johnny. Is it first come, first served?
DeVilbiss IntelliPap Std Plus with Smartflex; Transcend miniCPAP & Everest2 w/humidifier & batt for travel. UltraMirage FFM; PadACheeks; PaPillow. Using straight CPAP at 13.0/passover humidifier. AHI consistently < 1.5. Began CPAP 9/4/08.

Howdy,

Product challenge enrollment is not a first come, first served proposition. Although we do award responsiveness during the invitation and reviewing stages.

Here's the party line:

Participants are chosen via the data supplied during the enrollment process. Priority is given to those who have purchased the "challenged" product through confirmed channels such as CPAP.com. Additional criteria for participants may include: age, gender, prior product use, geographical location, and time of diagnosis. Other factors may be used on a case by case basis, however, said factors will in no way be used to skew, alter or in any other way adulterate the purity of the data.

I'd add:

We are really big on conducting objective challenges using product experts (ie. qualified CPAP users!).

We have created an automated scoring system based on criteria that ranks candidates to ensure we get the most qualified, experienced and vettable candidates each time. A computer does the ranking based on our algorithm, so there's no "Joe ranking up his friend" business. Same drill when calculating results.

Also, we grade the quality of each participant's reviews after each challenge. Quality isn't determined by a vote up or down for the product, but instead on the clarity, effort and insightfulness of the review. Good reviewers from past challenges can find themselves winning tie breakers if their score is equal to someone who hasn't participated before, or wrote a review which wasn't as focused on letting other CPAP users know what products are good as we'd have liked.
