bipap machine
bipap machine
I am looking for a bipap machine. I have a cpap now but I need more pressure, the doctor suggested a bipap. does anyone have a suggestion?
Re: bipap machine
It is no secret that I am partial to the Resmed VPAP Auto. Its the bi-level I insisted on. If you can get the Respironics PRE-M Series Bi-PAP Auto w/Bi-Flex, that's another good one. I'm not a fan of ANY of the Respironics M Series devices.
The Resmeds can't be beat for ease of access to the nightly data via the LCD screen. They are a 1/2 lb lighter than the M Series when traveling according to the comparisons at cpap.com. You have only 3 main components w/the Resmeds: the device itself, the integrated humidifier and the humidifier tank.
W/the Respironics you have the device itself, the power brick, the integrated humidifier w/its "tricky" tank, PLUS a second power cord instead of just one power cord AND that second power cord has a good size, unwieldy "box" on it.

Re: bipap machine
I'd suggest the M series Respironics BiPAP Auto with Bi-flex. But I'd not get the M series humidifier for it. I'd get a separate Fisher & Paykel HC 150 heated humidifier which can be connected to that machine with the connector hose that comes with that humidifier.
The M series machines themselves are good ones, imho. It's just the M series humidifiers that I'd avoid.
Or...I'd get the older pre-M Respironics BiPAP Auto with Bi-flex with its own heated humidifier. It's integrated heated humidifier is fine. The older (pre-M) integrated humidifiers for Respironics machines are good.
I also like the software Respironics machines use. The Encore Viewer software gives you plenty of detailed data about how your treatment is going.

This chart may provide some help.
What ever you buy, consider getting it from our hosts - cpap.com - it is a small payback for the excellent facilities they provide us.

Re: bipap machine
James, I just purchased a pre-M Respironics Bi-PAP Auto from cpap.com, and I've been very pleased with it so far. I have to admit I've been using it as a straight bi-level for the most part, though. The data stored in the smartcard is really helpful, and the humidifier works fine. (I hear the M-series machines sometimes have leaky humidifiers, though that problem is purportedly fixed now, and that they sometimes drop data from the smartcard for some reason. That's why I went with the pre-M machine--and the pre-M, despite being more robust, is less expensive!)james1979 wrote:I am looking for a bipap machine. But I've heard good things about the ResMed VPAP, too.
One machine I might have gone with if it generated fuller data was the Puritan-Bennett GoodKnight 425. I've read good things about it otherwise.
I was on CPAP for 10.5 years before my new sleep study in late September, and my new prescription for a BiPAP put me in the same boat as you. Fortunately, I found lots of good advice here and at cpap.com, too.
Good luck!

Re: bipap machine
A few months ago I got a Respironics M-series with A-flex (from cpap.com, of course). This was after going about fifteen years with constant pressure machines. I love this machine! After varying some of the settings for a few days (it comes with the "secret" manual that shows you how to do that) I find that c-flex is best for me. I am scarcely conscious that the thing is running, it is so comfortable to breathe with it!
True, it is cumbersome to move with its dangling power box and separate cord for the humidifier. The original humidifier tank leaked so I upgraded to the new design for about $40 more, feeling somewhat ripped off that cpap.com sold me an essentially deficient design that I had to pay to replace. This tank doesn't leak, but it is very small. If I set the humidity control at anything but "1," the lowest setting, the tank runs dry during the night, which not only sends me dry air, it runs the risk of damaging the tank. Now and then I think about trying it with one of my other humidifiers that is entirely separate from the machine and will last for about three days on one filling. I could keep the little water tank for traveling.

Re: bipap machine
I have the Respironics M Series BiPAP Plus with BiFlex. Why does the description for this say it doesn't have a Smart Card? Mine does.
