Encore Viewer And USB Smart Card Reader

Post by twocents » Sun Nov 02, 2008 8:08 am

I got the bundle friday. I tried installing it Sunday (nov 2) and it will NOT install. It says it needs Encore PRO ver 1.3 or higher. When I asked the girl at CPAP about the PRO software, she said they do not sell it any longer.
I am going to have to call them on Monday as I have (for now, unless someone has an idea) a useless piece of software.
I had the foresight to buy the encore pro software elsewhere and that is on its way (I had my suspicions.)
Since this is a 'stop all 'error message when I try to install the reader, I do not think there is a work around.
Damn, I was hoping to get some data today.
Any ideas?

Calm down!!! You don't have a "useless piece of software".
WHAT did you (attempt to) install? (that was giving you that message)
Encore Viewer would NOT give you a message that says it needs Encore Pro.
They're separate entities and wouldn't need anything from the other.

Yes. I had the same thing happen. CPAP.COM has apparently not sorted out their stock yet. The answer is that you may completely discard the CD you got for the Reader. It is useless and unnecessary. (verified by a call to Respironics a couple of months ago). The CD for the software also sets up the reader in the new version you have. You're good to go. Just install from the EV CD.

If this it the situation......the card reader came from one source and/or came with a separate CD, then there is a driver install program on the Encore Viewer CD in a folder called "Smart Card Readers". It's called "Setup.exe" and you'd just have to double-click on it.
I have Encore Pro (v.1.6) AND Encore Viewer residing on the same computer, did both installs of the smart card drivers and have had no problems using either.

Hey, thanks... yer all the best.
It was the install cd from the card reader that complained. Since the drivers are on the viewer software, I shall go there and look.
Sweet dreams.

edit: looks like the drivers just install along with the software... all I had to do was plug the reader in.
I don't exactly remember what I clicked on the Windows 'found new software'. I do know I said 'no' to the first option, and then let it look for the proper stuff in the second. Guess the Install disk either puts it in the right place to begin with, or it looked at the cd. No idea. Seems to be ok.
