Help! Zzz-Mask is whistling...

Post by CRS » Thu Oct 16, 2008 11:13 pm

Please help, I have GOT to get some sleep!!! Does anyone have a fix for the high-pitched squibbling noise on the full face Zzz-mask? It sounds like it's coming from where the elbow meets the mask, but the mask is brand new and the elbow is seated well, in fact so well that I couldn't take it out if I wanted to.

Ugh!!!

I obtained a Zzz-mask. It whistles as well. I found that the whistle is hard to recreate without the proper seating.
I suspect the pressure has to be within a certain range for the whistle to happen.

I found that the whistle comes from two places. One is the pivot upstream of the elbow. The other is hard for me to track down. It could come from the other pivot that is integral to the mask as you mentioned. Although I suspected the cupped deflector that covers the elbow may be responsible.

Yep! Get a different mask. I tried that one, too.....it's a poorly designed mask (fortunately I didn't have to pay for it).

WORDS can not EXPRESS how FRUSTRATED I am with the whole mask situation AT THIS JUNCTURE.

"So what are you going to do now?" you JUST might be asking...

PLAN A: Surround the offending areas in electrical tape or clear silicone caulk
PLAN B: Implement the aluminum foil, pliers, and blowtorch solution

If it's whistling, it's not fitting. Many of us share in your frustration. When I first started with CPAP, it seemed a little strange to me to read about people who had drawers of unusable masks. I've not joined that rank, even changing cushion size this week on my Mirage Micro. BTW, cpap.com is quiet helpful over the phone when choosing a new mask. Just thought I'd all that it.
