I didn't mean to imply they didn't try to help me. I was offered 3 masks-one that covers nose only, the nasal pillow one and the full mask. I tried the first 2 briefly and then laid down with the full mask. Then I freaked out. At that point, I was done. I can't tell you how much I was shaking. There was no way for me to stay. I still felt the shakes for about an hour after I got home. The tech could not have nicer to me. The only thing I wish they would have done was give me a little more time to wear it before she turned out the lights. It was really only a few minutes. Will they let me try it for a few hours at time while not sleeping? Maybe go over for 2 hours earlier in the evening knowing I am leaving? Would that help?

I do find it weird they have not called when they said they would. I am wondering what that means. I guess I will call them.

I appreciate all the advice and encouragement. I hope to continue on but I don't know. I was tagged as Moderate.

Those are all very good steps helping desensitize you to the situation. Ask the sleep center to help by letting you do that - treat them as allies in a cooperative project in which you and them are trying to help your terrified brain realize that this maks situation is an attempt to solve the problem. You are being choked nightly, and your brain is hightly tuned to anything the reminds it of choking - hence the alarm and freaking out at pressurize air blowing in at you. Your fright reaction at indications of choking is very healthy, its just that at it very basic, primitive layers, your brain is confused about the real source of danger. The real source of danger is you nightly lack of oxygen, your nightly experience of being unable to breathe and waking up because of that.

Ask the sleep center of the can let you turn the machine on and off, and turn the lights on and off as well. Having control of those may also make things easier for you.

O.

Jerome,
Ask them to let you try it. Ask them tAsk them if they can let you decide when to turn the lights off.

Jerome, I live in a large city, and have the choice of 3 sleep clinics within 15 minutes of my house, and numerous others within an hours drive.

Have you considered calling a different sleep clinic? Is that available to you?

Good luck!

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)
