13,200 Hours Later

Post by Amigo » Fri Oct 10, 2008 9:03 am

It has been quite awhile since I last visited here, but I have many fond memories of all the friendly and supportive people I encountered.

I've just celebrated my fifth anniversary on my Respironics RemStar Pro with C-Flex, and heated humidifier, and have logged over 13,000 hours of totally trouble free use, and highly successful therapy. My pressure setting is 12, and I use nasal pillows.

Given the age of the machine, however, I'm beginning to wonder if it wouldn't be prudent to purchase a replacement. Although I've reviewed the sales volume data here, it doesn't provide the personal information that this site provides so well.

Since I respect your opinions, I would appreciate any input on whether you think a new machine is warranted, and, if so, which one(s) you would recommend. Although I've only used a CPAP, I'm open to purchasing an APAP this time around.

Thanks,
Amigo

HEY, Amigo! It's good to see you post again. And, congratulations on your anniversary. (5 smileys)

Actually, I was nervous in my first year because I didn't have a backup machine.....but made up for that in the ensuing years.

With that many hours, I would seriously be thinking about it. If you're like me and prefer the older Legacy style machines, there are occasionally some on CPAPAUCTION.COM. Getting another Legacy model would also allow you to use your existing humidifier and filters.

As far as APAP goes......they can always be run in CPAP mode. With this many years on straight pressure, you MAY have some difficulty with the pressure changes of an APAP, but if you get SOMETHING that is data-capable, you can always verify your settings with software.

Best wishes,

Den

Hey, Amigo.

Congrats on the five-year anniversary!

I'm new here, but I've been using CPAP for 10.5 years now--and am still using the same machine, a HealthDyne Tranquility Quest. I reckon it's got 27,000 hours on it. It gave me a scare almost a month ago when it wouldn't turn back on in the middle of the night. I was very glad then that I was about to have a new sleep study and likely get a new machine.

Fortunately, a bit of tinkering seems to have kept the problem at bay, but I make sure I don't turn the machine off for short trips down the hallway in the middle of the night now. I'll be counting on this one as a backup once I get a new BiPAP.

Anyway, I'd almost be willing to bet that your machine will last a few years longer, but since it's so important, I think getting a backup is a good idea--especially if you can get a gently used one just like it at a decent price.

I'm considering getting a Respironics M series Auto BiPAP or RemStar Auto BiPAP; any input on the longevity of these machines would be welcome!

Good luck finding a good machine, Amigo!

I would go for a gently used data capable auto to have on hand when this one bites the dust. I would drive this one into the ground but have the replacement on hand so that I knew it worked for me. But that's me.

Amigo!!!! Congrats on your 5 years!!!

Stick around for a while and post. I'd be looking for a backup too. That's alot of hrs. I like my legacy and haven't had any trouble with it for the over 2 yrs I've used it(knocking on wood here). I would try to get another, even a used one with low hrs.
Some have been found on craigs list as well as cpapauction.com.
Here's wishing you many more years of happy papping!

Brenda

Thank you all very much for your thoughtful input and congratulations. I'm one of the lucky ones as I've had a completely trouble-free five years, and feel great.

I'll be seeing my Pulmonologist on Monday for an updated prescription so I have my homework cut out for me this weekend as I want the details to be as specific as possible.
