swollen face

Post by Lindatax » Fri Oct 03, 2008 10:24 am

I tried a new mask-nose pillows last night, when I woke up this morning and looked in the mirror, I almost had a heart attack!! My face was all swollen, my eyes were just slits. I walked around and took deep breaths and now, two hours later I still have some swelling and my face is red. I have a call into the c-pap tech but wanted to know if anyone has had that problem. I have been on a machine for about ten years. This was just a new mask. thank you

I am very new to using the cpap - just started on Monday. I was given the nasal pillows and that has been one of my complaints. My face and eyes have been swollen and my eyes have been very sore.

I've had some slight swelling, but not like what you've described. I think you might want to loosen your headgear straps. You might have your mask on too tight.

Other than that, I'm stumped. Anyone?

Cheers,
Babs

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Sounds like an allergic reaction to me.

I get the swollen face and eyes, red and blotchy with some blue/purple. Sometimes huge bags under my eyes etc. I put it down to the straps squeezing my eyes.
I tell my partner that my appearance is my breeding display but she pretends to be unimpressed...

You're killing me! I'm going to try that when my massive amount of hair is out of control : )

One of the perks of going to the CL2 is that it doesn't press on any facial nerves or press on blood supply to the face. I'm not an expert in this area, but wonder if this is occurring in your case. It makes sense that if the mask is too tight, if your blood supply is close to the surface, if your blood supply is affected by mask pressure from lessened fatty tissue or muscle in the face to guard the blood supply, or other reason that this could be the culprit.

I don't have a solution for you, but if you do figure out the cause let us know! I'm curious about the fact that you've been on CPAP 10+ years and it sounds like this is a new problem specific to this mask.
