MyEncore apnea data.

Post by fstanmyre » Sat Jul 16, 2005 10:23 am

Had a fairly normal sleep last nite with an AHI of 3.1. Non responsive apneas zero. I'm tending to follow the "time spent in apnea" and "average duration of apneas" charts in MyEncore because it seems to me they are important. I tend to run Time Spent 50 to 100 seconds, with an average duration of 10 to 15 seconds. I don't know whether this is good or bad. Any comps and insight would be appreciated.

Fred

Key is you had pretty good nights sleep and AHI 3 is in a good range. Your time in apnea and apnea duration are about exactly where mine is. If things are working well and you're happy you could leave well enough alone and just keep monitoring.

On the other hand if you're the inquisitive type and want to tweak for best numbers possible... Notice you have same equipment...what settings are you using and what was your sleep study titrated pressure recommendation? Depending on range you're set at you may want to "fine tune" expecially noting best results at various pressures on the MyEncore AHI vs. Pressure chart.

Sleep lab titration was apap 5 to 18 for lack of any better numbers I guess. I've been all over the place tweaking for best results. Currently I've gone back to square one cuz too many variables confusing me. I've eliminated the mask as a variable. I use only the Breeze nasal pillow and the average leak is consistanly about 30. I've turned of the autopap and cflex and gone straight cpap at 9 inches. I've had better results at 8.5. Plan is to find the best cpap pressure, then start playing with the autopap and then the cflex. Sofar straight cpap gives much better results than autopap for some strange reason. I'll probably tweak forever.

Many that run in auto with too broad a range (me included) find they're better off with a much tighter APAP range. My best individual CPAP pressure is 10 cm (which is also my sleep study titrated pressure) but I can actually run in APAP w/o CFlex with a tight range of 8.5 to 9 at low end to 11 to 12 at the top end and just about always get better consistency and lower AHI results. I'm at lower presssures most of the night with the auto bumping up for short periods to accomodate events then settling back down.

Bottom line is it's great to have the software to monitor plus the equipment that gives you so many different options.

Hi Jim, I've also noticed the results are much better with a narrow range. I haven't tried a real narrow range like you suggest but will give it a try. Thanks for the tip. Btw, if we run out of tweaks to do, we can always buy a Resmed machine with a different algorithm and start all over again.
