noisey machine..periodically

Post by needingu » Fri Jul 18, 2008 8:17 am

Do you ever hear a "ohoo.whoo" at night from your machine when you breathe and can't sleep without earplugs,.,. I have just got up and sat up awhile when it got on my nerves. You know, there ia a simple solution.. just turn off the machine for a bit and when turned back on,it levels out. You probably already know that but it has taken me three years to figure it out.
Happy sleeping.

Your using auto bipap so the machine will change sounds as it changes pressure. That why the noise goes away when you turn it off and turn it back on. It resets back to baseline pressures. If the machine is equiped with biflex there will also be some extra noise involved. I guess an explanation of how auto machines work is in order. Depending on the settings the machine will sit at its bottom pressures till an apnea or hypopnea happens. Each time an event happens the machine will increase pressure till events stop happening. Once that pressure has been reached the machine will back off a little allowing pressure to drop till an event happens. Often peolple with osa will be severe in one position and mild in another. The way the machine constantly challenges the airway allows the machine have multiple pressures depending on what is going on. The down side of all of this is a nosier machine. Often the mask plays a role in this. All masks have some sort of vent to allow you to exhale, increase the pressure increases the mask hiss. All very frustrating but ultimately worth getting used to.
