Sore throat...should I sterilize?

Post by Needsdecaf » Sun Jul 13, 2008 11:26 am

I've had a sore throat since last Wednesday. It's strange, it comes and goes. Only other symptom is an occasional stuffy nose.

Should I sterilize the mask?:

Cleanlyness is good, but remember these bugs are in your system, if you get well it's because your body builds up a force to fight the bugs. Boiling the mask and hose may kill the infection, but drinking boiling water for 30 minutes won't make you well.

You have to find out what you need to keep infections at bay, I use Vit "C', lots of it 2,000 to 3,000 units daily, and a little soap. Jim

For a Sore Throat, I use Listerine, if gargled deep with-in ten minutes of first pain and every 30 munutes after, I can usually stop the sore throat dead in it's tracks. I know Listerine isn't my favorate way to get AlC either.

I think giving up your reproductive ability mght be a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to a sore throat.

Oh, you mean your cpap parts?

Can't hurt. Might make you feel better psychologically.

My Dad the MD swears by large doses of Echinacea taken repeatedly throughout the day during colds, flu, sore throat. etc.

Don't take it continuous, like vitamins. Just when you need it.

My Mom, the Ph.d, swears by large doses of Vitamin C and sucking Zinc tabs.

Me, the BA, I do all three.

Hope you feel better soon!

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

I notice that you have a full face mask, you might be mouth breathing into your mask, which can cause your throat to get sore. It happened to me when I was on the liberty F/F mask, that's why I taught myself to stop mouth breathing. Now when my throat starts to get sore I know I am mouth leaking. Just a thought. Check your data and see if your sv's our up.

I agree, it might be dryness.

When I has tosilitis (a single bout) last autumn I asked my GP about the cpap. No problem. Its different if you run into repeated strep infections - but that's not your case.
