...oxygen...

Post by LDuyer » Mon Dec 13, 2004 5:49 pm

On a followup visit, my doctor tells me I need oxygen added to my treatment. (Now I'm REALLY gonna feel like a hospital patient!)

Do others have to have the oxygen? Can I expect to be on that for quite a while? (doctor says so).

Sigh! ....I had hoped the jet fight mask & BiPAP would be enough!

Hello Linda,

Yes there are quite a few that people that use oxygen at night. Using oxygen at night is usually a permanent thing. The only way I see that changing is if your doctor is taking an active part in your compliance and determines that your O2 levels will allow you to stop using it at night. Sometimes cpap or bipap usage is enough to help increase low O2 levels.

You will feel less like a Hospital patient depending on you set up. O2 really doesn't add to the pressure and if connected right will not be an added burden or added tube you have to fight with. You could even put the O2 Concentrator in another room if it is too loud(they are usually considerably louder than a cpap) or to hide a machine that is so big.

Thanks so much for replying.

My doctor did seem to indicate that using oxygen may be a permanent thing. I think that part scared me the most. He said that he thought the only way that changes is if my health changed so very dramatically. Thanks for giving me an idea of what to expect, even though it is a little unnerving. I guess I thought the BiPAP would be enough once oxygen returned me to a normal saturation level. But he did say he thought my apnea was severe. (oh dear!). But he also said he expected me to gain alot of energy by doing this.

Thanks again.

Linda
