Dental Problems

Post by Georgia Hosehead » Thu Dec 16, 2004 12:15 pm

I,ve been on CPAP for over two years now, and have recently had dental problems including teeth grinding and sore jaw muscles. My dentist stated that she thought that persons on CPAP therapy had various problems. Has anyone else heard this, or experienced dental problems related to CPAP? :(

Hi G H,

I've worn a night mouthguard since before I became a hosehead. I could not go to sleep without it but now on cpap I don't clench my teeth at night anymore. Maybe it's the air pressure pushing my mouth open. I have not tried to sleep without the guard yet though. Ask your dentist about getting a night guard. They are not cheap but they are cheaper than replacing a broken tooth or crown!
Sincerely,

Greetings G-hosehead,

People have shared with me in the past that the mask has caused their front teeth, specifically the upper teeth to go crooked. I find that hard to believe, but if you wear your mask to tight, as most people do-to stop leaks, then long term use may effect your dental structure. I also know cpap users who wear dentures have a hard time getting a good fit with mask due to the lack of dental structure.

Teeth grinding on the other hand, I just find it hard to see a clear correlation between the two. I would have to agree with "The Wader".
