Here is an interesting quote from the free preview they give of the book:
"Some people only need four or five hours of sleep; others need eight or nine. Sleeping longer than the body needs will increase the amount of time spent in very light sleep, causing a person to awaken unrefreshed."
I'm going to pull myself out of bed quicker in the morning and see if that helps. Now that I have my APAP, it's not unusual for me to sleep like a rock for 5 to 6 hours and then waken. I have been assuming I need more sleep so I lay there in very light sleep for an hour or two. Doing so may be causing me to not feel refreshed when I finally get up. Hmmm, interesting thought...

Hmmm.... I don't know if I believe the quote, "some people only need 4-5 hours"... I've read the book "The Promise of Sleep" by William Dement, the founder of the Stanford Sleep clinic, and 1 of the docs who discovered REM. He says in the book that all the data/studies he's seen/done that most people need 7-9, and that he's never found a case of someone needing only that little amount of sleep.
That book is frickin amazing and anyone that really wants to understand more about sleep or apnea or anything related should read it. It is a long book though, i think its close to 600. Ha, luckily my new job was really slow the 1st wk, so I read the whole thing.
I believe as a patient that I need to know the most about my disorder, OSA, to be able to really understand the cause and effect of it. Of course I'm no expert, but Dement seems to be THE expert as far as many sleep subjects are concerned,
