Any users in the Conyers/Covington/Athens area? I'm looking for a doctor in that area that would treat me. A GOOD doctor. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
Looking for new doctor
Hi, I am new to this board tonight. Just got my Respirontics bi-pap Friday. It is very noisy and hope to get this straightened out with the home health supplier (Apria) resp tech..just called today. This is a used machine and he will try to get me a new one.
Re your request for a sleep doctor recommendation. I also live in the Lithonia-Conyers area (about 3 miles from Stonecrest. I had a sleep test done in the area near Rockdale and was not happy. I did not sleep at all (the tech said maybe 5 minutes during the early part and latter part of the split night study. I watched my watch all night and tossed and turned. The doctor did not seem to want to listen to me until I went in crying I was so upset. The study showed 5+ hours of sleep time.
My insurance paid for a second opinion test. I went to Northside Hospital Sleep Medicine Institute, 5780 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd, Suite 150, Atlanta Ga 30342. Phone 404 851 8135. Website: http://www.nshsleep.com
I had a sleep study done there 10 years ago, but my husband had just had a major stroke and I never did my follow ups after getting my Respirontics RemStar machine. I never used it successfully and just never went back until last month. This was my fault, not Northside's. I got a very thorough exam 10 years ago. I got a very good and thorough exam this month. The facilities there are wonderful. Quiet with private bath and shower. I took an appointment with the first doctor available (a lady Dr Johnson). She was very patient to listen to my problems and did not rush me at all. I was VERY pleased with the doctor and the techs (I guess that is their title) the night of the study. I had the study done on a Thursday night and got a call the following Monday morning stating that Apria home health would be getting in touch with me that week with my machine. I was away from home a lot due to another sick relative and did not actually get with the supplier until last Fri. (The study I had done in Rockdale, I had to wait a month for the results and still was not happy because I knew they were not reliable because I had not slept. After going in to talk to the doctor in tears he agreed to do another test but said he did not know if my insurance would pay for it. He still was certain that my main problem is involuntary leg movement. That may well be part of the problem, but since I had been diagnosed with sleep apnea 10 years ago and just failed to use the equipment and have spent 12 years fighting a devestating fatigue, depression and now a very poor memory, I wanted to be sure I had a doctor I felt would assure me a good and valid exam. While Northside was maybe a 45 mile trip one way from my home, it was right off the interstate and worth the extra driving time. I would very highly recommend this sleep center and their doctors. The doctor I saw 10 years ago is retired, and the only other doctor I had experience with was Dr. Johnson. This is a also a teaching facility for doctors I believe. It is larger and very organized with a very caring and compassionate staff.
Good luck - and sweet dreams!
I am looking forward to my first follow up with Dr. Johnson (set for about 30 days after I got the bi-pap)
