Problem
Did I just get use to the air pressure, did my machine sop working or do I have a massive leak
Rev. Anthony Pursser, M Div.
Most likely you just got used to the pressure already, BrotherTony. Good for you!! If you can hear that baby humming, then it's not broken. When you put your hand up to the hose, if you can feel air whooshing, then you're good to go. Seems like just a natural progression that you start out feeling the pressure at the start of the night but often don't really notice it when you wake up in the morning. You've just adjusted already.

P.S. If your mask is leaking, you will know it. It is a very indelicate sound known to many after eating beans.

That is another part of therapy you have to get used to. When that happens, it will be the same feeling of wondering if it is even there. For me anyway! Leaks and weird nights not included.
I also got used to the pressure very fast and now no longer notice it first thing in the morning. I am still working on mask leaks, but again it is not the first thing I think of when waking up.
You are doing very, very well. Keep it up!

You're in your first 30 days with your DME. Right? Try every mask they've got during their exchange time until you find one that is the least offensive. Maybe you are a full face mask kind of guy rather than a nasal/chinstrap kind of guy. You'll never know until you try. You spent all those years wearing those awful rubber masks, so you could probably tolerate a full face mask with no problems at all. I personally don't care for the Quattro or the Mirage, which is what a lot of DMEs will first give you, but lots of people love them. Just get your hands on as many as you can while you are in the golden period with the DME.
Also try the Pur-Sleep. For $29.95, you can get a starter kit of three fragrances, the diffuser and pads, and that may help. It does for a lot of people. When you wake up, plop another drop of essential oil on the pad and think of something pleasant.
Sometimes it's better for me to just "walk away" for a while when I wake up at night. I get tired of futzing with the mask, I know I can't sleep when I'm irritated, so I go into my office and get on the computer for a little while.
Have you tried maybe taking some Unisom or Benadryl before bed to help you relax a little more? For me, it helps on those bad nights. I don't do well with the prescribed stuff, but many do. There's also a natural product called Calms Forte if you prefer natural.
If the sound of the machine bugs you, there are ways to soundproof it. Some like white noise machines or the whir of a humidifier.
Other than that, I'm all out of ideas at the moment. I'm not all that rested myself today so may be forgetting something.
Hang in there, BrotherTony! Most of all, cut yourself some slack. It's a strange new thing to get used to. If you can't make it through the night, forgive yourself -- after all, you're only human -- and vow to give it your best go the next night. I can somehow sense your vibe through your postings, odd though that may sound, and I have utter confidence you're going to be able to master this strange CPAP stuff quite successfully. Maybe not on the time line you were hoping to , but you will get there.
Just remember you're not alone!! And I don't just mean the forum members.

I agree with Peggy here. This seems to have a nice effect and makes the therapy a bit more positive. I was waking 1-3 hours after I went to sleep and could not stand my mask and couldn't get to sleep. Sleepguy on this forum provided me some pur-sleep and it has helped immensely. http://www.pursleep.com Some folks, I note have tried meditation. I see you are a Minister, perhaps a good time to meditate on God's word and imagery while inhaling some lovely aromatherapy. Also try the Pur-Sleep. I think in part, I find that the nasal masks that cover the whole nose can make some folks feel claustrophobic. Nasal prongs like the Swift or others maybe more satisfying to you. If you have humidification with your flow generator, use it and adjust so that you get just enough humidity. Too much and you get rain out (condensation forms in the mask and you get a face wash!).
Keep it up and you do get used to it.
