heated humidifiers - question

Post by Lindi » Wed Jun 22, 2005 8:37 am

I have a heated humidifier on my CPAP (CPAP is a Remstar Plus with a respironics humidifier). My insurance just replaced the humidifier because the old one stopped working. Last night I filled it to the line with distilled water, set it on 2 and it was bone dry this morning after 8 hours. Is this normal? My old humidifier never went dry at setting 2 even after 10 hours.

If any one can give me some insight I would appreciate it. Have a great day!

Sounds like it is working great!

That water is going somewhere! If it is not on the floor, it is
going into your body. Sounds like you are a big mouth
breather. My humidifier is nearly empty every morning. I
thought that was the whole point of using the humidifier, so
you mouth and throat didn't get dried out. You should look
into getting the Australian heated hose to go along with that
nice humidifier.

wow, did it leak??? I also have the REMStar Plus w/CFlex and heated humidifier, set on 3, and it really doesn't go through much water. The one night it did go bone dry, was because it had leaked all over the dresser down to the floor. It seems to be finicky as to whether the water chamber is seated properly.

It did not leak - my floor and all around the CPAP was dry. I know I am a mouth breather big time. I am just concerned because it should not run out of waater and I hate to fill it past the recommended level. Guess I will have to wake up earlier. OH well. Thanks

When I first started on the remstar plus my setting was 1 and the water never went down. I now have it set to 4 and it usually drains down to the bottom. I did notice that on occasion with "heat" was shut off in the morning and the water did not drain. I don't know if it automatically shut off or if when I got up to use the bathroom, I did not turn it back on correctly. Now I have to ensure the little green light is on.

The humidifier is working fine. The water is going out your mouth. Beware that cpap often does not control sleep disordered breathing during mouth leak periods. I suggest a full face mask or chinstrap along with the heated humidifier. Run your heater as high as you can without rainout as dry cool air from a cpap causes sinus passage to contract which leads to mouth leak which leads to water loss.

Sorry - I am on another computer but this is Lindi. I have a FF mask and have been using the cpap with heated humidifier for 7 months with no problems - it is great feeling rested. I think I did not seat it properly the first night (it is a new humidifier). I know the second night I put the humidifier setting on 1 and have had no problems. Last night I changed the setting to 2 and it has some water this morning - I feel better about that.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and assistance. Have a great day!
