Got My Machine

Post by RickSt » Fri Jun 24, 2005 6:30 pm

I called my doctor's office today to see if they could speed things up on getting my machine with my health being what it is right now.The doctor that actually reads the results of the sleep study is a part of the same clinic as my doctor.I told the nurse to call him.She was somewhat apprehensive but a little bit later called back and said that she was faxing the script to the DME.I then called the DME and told them to be expecting the fax.I was told that it would probably be next week before I could get a machine.A few minutes later the therapist calls and says to come on over and get it.

I have a RemStar Pro/C-Flex with a heated humidifier with a setting of only 7.That's all it took to open my airway. It suprised the sleep tech because I'm such a big guy.I tried 3 or 4 different masks on and came home with an Activa and an Ultra Mirage.I really prefer the fit and comfort of the Ultra Mirage so far.Tomorrow I may change my mind.I have layed in bed and tried different positions and both seem like they stay sealed.

I realize that it may take a while to get used to everything but just the thought of being this close may help.

I told the therapist about cpaptalk.com and she's going to check it out.She liked it that my wife and I were somewhat informed when we came in.

Thanks to all of you.
Rick

Rick, that must be a great relief to know the doctor is concerned and looking out for you. I have used both masks, and both are very good. It took me a little while to get used to part of the Activa's lower seal touching my top lip. I have had no leaks. It is also very comfortable to have the mask fit so loosely, yet maintain a seal. That also took a while to get used to. My Ultima is three years old. Except for the retaining ring and one headgear clip breaking, it is all original. It is simply the most durable mask I have used. Be sure to wash the headgear regularly, or the fabric will separate from the synthetic backing material.

that's great that a lower number helps your apnea. I have the 420E with software, and I too, have jacked up my starting apap number to 7 and I'm averaging only 1 or 2 ap's a night, and sometimes none. I seldom go over 10 or 12 events combined for the entire night.

I am assuming that this is good.....

Keep up the good work....

Hi RickSt,

That is wonderful news! It took me a month after my sleep study to get my machine. And I am envious of your pressure! The low end on my auto is 10...

Be sure to discuss taking the CPAP to the hospital if you are getting general anethesia -- there are previous topics that you can search.

Best wishes,

Sleep well,

Jane
