nasal mask leaks - Encore Pro readings

Post by SnoreNoMore2005 » Sun Mar 30, 2008 3:49 pm

I have a Respironics APAP with a smartcard. I use a nasal mask and don't know how to interpret my Encore Pro reading when it comes to leaks (LPM). I average around 35 LPM each night. Sometimes the graph shoots up to 50 or even 75. I don't know how to interpret the LPM value.

My AHI is good at @1.0 so is the LPM important? I tried a chinstrap last night and the LPM went from 35 to 33. I don't know if that's much of a help.

Can anyone advise me on what is a good or bad LPM reading on EncorePro?

Thanks

Every mask has a normal exhaust leak rate--the goal, I believe, it that your leak reports not exceed the leak rate for your mask. Those high numbers (50-75) are certainly real leaks that you need to try to control. Mask exhaust leak rates wouldn't be that high.

Look for a graph, in the literature that came with your mask, that shows the expected leak rate. Your nitely leak rate should be something close to the published number. Don't try to be exact or you will drive yourself crazy. Keep in mind, as your pressure increases so will your expected leak rate.

You can also check here to see if YOUR mask is listed -

Aslo if your profile was filled in correctly, (in text not icon), people would be better able to help/

For leak data I use Encore Pro page 4, avg leak data, and look at the leaks line. No large leaks ever. Jim
