full face masks

Post by loonlvr » Fri Dec 10, 2004 4:07 pm

Well, I'm still trying to decide on a full face mask which i need. My respironics comfort full it that comfortable. Whats the difference between a mirage series 2 ff and a ultra mirage ff? any other brands to suggest. The price is almost the same. My present mask has to be kept pretty tight. Due for a change after 1600 hrs. Also would like to know how many hrs everyone has used there machines.

I Have had a Resmed Spirit since August 2002 and I have 2 Ultra Mirage masks that I switch out daily..The cpap has over 5000 hrs on it. Its in the shop right now. Using a 420 E as my backup . The seal on the irage just doesnt leak o me. And it wont seal if it is too tight . The new version is called the Active I belive . I hear its a good mask. The full face version should have similar results. Hope this helps some

Cheers.

Chris

the diff between the mirage series 2 FF and the ultra mirage FF is the forehead pads on the ultra. The series 2 doesn't have any and it uses a strap across the crown of the head in addition to the one encircling the top of the head. There's probably pics available at any of the online equipment dealers and you can see what I mean...

If I had never used a mask with a forehead pad (like ResMed's Ultra Mirage, the Activa, and the Ultra Mirage FF) I'd think, "Sheesh, I don't want that extra piece up against my forehead." And in most masks by other makers, I still wouldn't. But the neat thing about ResMed's forehead support thingies (I don't work for them!) is that adjusting the forehead support is really tilting the mask itself - changing the angle the main mask touches your face. Playing around with the forehead adjustment tilt is crucial to getting a leakproof "fit". It can make all the difference in the world between having air leaking out of the bottom of the mask, or puffing air into your eyes. With the Ultra Mirage nasal mask, Ultra Mirage FF, and especially the Activa, the straps can be worn more loosely than with most other masks. But you gotta fiddle with the forehead tilt thing (and the straps, for that matter) - while you're lying down in sleeping position - in order to achieve that kind of comfy fit. With my Activa in particular, the forehead pad doesn't even touch my forehead most of the time...amazing.
