First 3 nights of New APAP!

Post by coffee » Fri Jun 17, 2005 3:04 pm

My Remstar Auto w/cflex has arrived and I've slept with her for three nights now with interesting results. The cflex is great! Much more comfortable.
I went from a CPAP at 11 cm. to this APAP set at 8-15 the first night, and 8-14 the following nights.
I had wanted this APAP for a few reasons:
* Extra comfort with cflex
* Reduced aerophagia (air in stomach) by reducing mean nightly pressure, while still providing needed pressure for occasional high pressure needs.
* Access to nightly sleep data for better knowledge and potential self-care of sleep therapy.

My initial titration of 47 AHI was treated with a pressure of 14. That was lowered to 10 after aerophagia problems, then raised to 11 when it was discovered that 10 was not treating OSA. I have suspected that 11 was not enough. (I would sometimes awake “starving” for air.) I have been using CPAP for years with minimal improvement. I know it is helping somewhat, I went without the machine for a week when I had a bad cold/cough and felt even worse than normal.
But the continued exhaustion, memory loss and brain fog has gone on far too long…

I will compile two to three weeks of sleep data to show to my sleep doctor. In the meantime if any of you knowledgeable hoseheads feel like commenting on these numbers, please do. I understand an AHI of under 5 is desirable. I see my numbers are above that. I’m not sure of the significance of the snores or leaks. And are there ways of manipulating the machine to lower the AHI?

My numbers are as follows for the three nights:

90% AutoCPAP.........11.6.......13.7......10.9
Avg AutoCPAP............9.3.......10.7........9.4
Flow Limitation...........0.0.........0.4........0.3
Obstructive Apnea......3.8........7.0.........8.1
Hypopnea..................2.4........2.4.........1.5
Snore......................15.4.......11.3.......12.7
AHI...........................6.2.........9.8.........9.5
Average Leak..........36.71.....40.94.....35.46

I should mention that I had knee surgery two weeks ago and some arousals may be due to leg pain.

Any comments are welcome! It certainly seems that I did need a higher pressure than the 11, but my sleep quality still needs improvement… I still spend my days tired and would like to feel better.

I've learned much since discovering this forum and I do appreciate the support and encouragement I've received!

I would post the graphs for viewing, but I do not know how to convert the Encore Pro results into a jpeg file… any suggestions?
