Does anyone have to use Ambien along with their cpap to get a decent nights sleep? I was diagnosed with sleep apenea over a year ago. I still was not feeling rested although I faithfully used the cpap every night. About 6 months ago my sleep doctor put me on Ambien and I do sleep somewhat better. I do think the Ambien is not as effective as it was when I first started taking it. I am about 40 lbs over weight and I am determined to lose it and try to get rid of the cpap. Has anyone dropped weight and been able to ditch the cpap? Lots of questions because I just discovered this website tonight. Thanks, Sailorsdaughter
sleep meds with cpap
Still tired
Hello and welcome, Sailorsdaughter.
Can't speak to the Ambien. About your problems sleeping, was it trouble falling asleep or staying asleep? Has your doctor confirmed that your pressure is indeed working for you, or stopping your events? Did you sleep ok before using cpap? I'm just wondering if a problem with your treatment is causing your sleep difficulties. Don't know which machine and mask you are using, but just for example, if not using a full face mask, one could be diligent about using their machine yet mouth breathe after falling asleep, and thus still have apneas that could disrupt sleep.
Sorry to just ask questions, but one more. Did your sleep study report make any mention of arousals from limb movements?
Ideally the cause of your sleep problems could be identified and solved. But I know for many meds are necessary. Someone with experience in this realm will probably jump in here soon.
Again, welcome. May your commitment to your treatment in view of your frustrations lead you to increasing success.
