Cleaning Tips Anyone?

Post by SnoreGal » Thu Dec 20, 2007 3:33 pm

Does anyone out there have any good cleaning tips for your hoses, masks, etc. Especially with natural cleaning products?

SNORT! There's a giant natural cleaning thread that's sort of languishing these past few weeks. Search for "OT: Natural Cleaning" and you'll find all 50 some pages of it. Or seach for "Babette" (my screen name) and if you find my sig, there's a link there.

What I do: Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap, Peppermint, Liquid. I wash with that weekly. My mask doesn't need more frequent cleaning. Yours might. I soak it whenever I feel the need in a strong white vinegar and water solution. Then I re-wash to help cut the vinegar smell.

I wash my mask, my humidifier chamber, and my hose all with the same stuff.

I put my chinstrap in a lingerie bag and wash it with my regular clothes, using laundry soap I make myself. I found the recipe at W W W soapsgonebuy.com

So far, nothing has grown in my mask or HH or hose. I'm very happy with my regime.

Cheers,
Barbara/Babette

I found an all-natural soap at the grocery store called "Planet."

It is made from coconut oils and it is a very gentle soap. I like the stuff a lot, and it is reasonably priced as well.

Hypo-allergenic, natural, no chemicals, etc. Washes and rinses clean. My mask and soft parts are crystal clear. I wash every day...

I use baby wipes for wiping my mask off every morning. Once a week or so I use baby bath to clean everything. It is very gentle and if you get the scented lavender, it adds a nice scent.

Planet is a good one. Try Baby Shampoo. I use Lavender dish soap. I also purchased from one of the cpap stores a product that is used specifically in hospitals for sterilizing and do my hoses, mask and humidifier once a week in that. I think you can just do what you want here.

I use baby shampoo to wash my cushion every morning and the same to wash everything else once a week and Distilled water to rinse them. leaves no residue from the tap (well) water. Well water is very limey.

All natural baby shampoo

WARNING: SHAMELESS PLUG!

Small Wonder is what I use for cleaning my equipment. It's a completely biodegradable, all-natural, very gentle baby shampoo that leaves no residue at all.

Doug.

There was a thread here a couple of weeks ago and all the "experts" said to never bother with cleaning them.

I was told by my DME to never ever use Dawn Dish soap. I love Dawn, but do not use it to clean my masks and hoses. Lots of CPAP'ers use Dawn and if it works for them, that is their choice.

What I do is wash my masks in Johnson's Baby Shampoo "Lavendar" scent and then stand in the shower with my hoses and add the baby shampoo and let the hot water run down them several times... then I take my humidifier off and wash that with Johnson's baby shampoo. I then connect the hose without the humidifier and let the air go through the tube to dry it. Yes, I know that results in a "high mask leak" reading... but this is what I do to clean all my things and have had very good results. My husband and I both have cpaps and both had good results with Johnson's Lavendar Baby Shampoo.
