Caught the last minute of a segment about women and sleep apnea. The show referenced WebMD for more information, but I went to msnbc site to see if I could find what I missed and searched the site for sleep apnea. Never got around to finding what I was looking for. Turns out they have quite an archive of reports on sleep disorders. But one statistic in an article caught my eye. A hospital, after having a patient die post op, instituted safety measures to prevent it happening again. Pre op screening of patients showed 23% of patients had sleep apnea and 76% of them were undiagnosed. This hospital now to great lengths to assure the safety of their patients. Hopefully more will catch on.

Thanks for posting the link. Excellent informative interview. Maybe the increased awareness will cause more to have sleep studies done that haven't yet been diagnosed. Both people interviewed commented about feeling better immediately. That can be misleading because not everyone feels better after one night of cpap for a variety of reasons. That could discourage those who do get tested and don't feel those immediate results. Matt Lauer got to try on a Swift II, lol. ResMed mask and machine, hmm, no comment.
That was a good link, about the hospitals finding 1 in 4 surgery patients having SDB.

Looks like St. Louis is at the front of the boat on this with Barnes Jewish HOspital. My sleep lab seems first rate, too. It's part of another hospital called St. John's Mercy, but ironically it's located on the St. Lukes Hospital campus.
So it looks like 3 of the bigger hospitals around here have good programs. That's comforting. Moving here from the west coast, I was a bit worried that the mid-west would be lagging is this sort of medical stuff.
