Help Needed.......Almost Falling Asleep During The Day

Post by clabelle » Fri Dec 14, 2007 6:29 am

I have been using my cpap machine every day religiously, I am set at a 10, and I feel like I could fall asleep at my desk at work every day. This just started about two to three weeks ago. It happens mid-morning and then again in the afternoon. I have no idea why. I keep waking up in the middle of the night though, so I don't know if I need to go in and see the sleep dr again. What do you think?

You don't have your equipment listed, but I'm going to guess that you have a nasal mask and that your therapy air is leaking out your mouth at night.....thereby negating your therapy.
Ever wake up with a dry mouth? That's a good clue.

Full face mask, tepe your mouth shut or use Polident adhesive denture strips to seal your lips. Chinstraps typically don't do very well to solve the problem.

Please fill out your profile, including your pressure and give us more to go on.

If I read your letter correctly, you are describing a sudden, unexpected change that has you almost falling asleep twice during the day (and hopefully not when you're driving). And you keep waking up in the middle of the night. The simple answer is " yes, of course you've got to go and see your doctor again". You're not supposed to keep waking in the night (and falling asleep during the day) when your treatment is working.

There is also a not so simple answer:

Some of us have machines that let us monitor our sleep results. And while do so, we have discovered that Rx with which we left the sleep lab is not longer good enough. It may be too high, it may be too low. And some of us use this information.

Add your machine to your profile (and your pressure info in a comment) so we can see what it is and tell if it has full data reporting capability.

Then, contact your doctor and reportyour sleep problems. And while you're there, tell the doctor you want to monitor your therapy - like people with diabetes do for theirs. Tell the doc you would rather he - or she - based their treatment decisions on data gathered by the machine, and not on guesses, and have him (her) script a fully data capable machine for you if the one you have is not.

I'm sure others will chime in with the specific info about recommended machines.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck!
O.
