Hi,
I'm new here and very tired so forgive me if I've posted in the wrong place or whatever.
I'm a bit desperate. I've got a REMstar Auto C-Flex machine and I've had it for a year. Everything was fine until today - it auto adjusted to whatever level I needed when I'm asleep.
Today I had to go for an annual review at the sleep clinic. They "tested" the machine and gave it back to me. Now it'acting very weird. I put the mask on, it starts automatically - but this time at 15.0 instead of the usual 4.0.
I immediately press the Ramp button and it goes down to 4.0. HOWEVER, now it creeps up very quickly - 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 etc - every few seconds and before you know it I can't breathe and have to turn it off.
It's really annoying cos I just want to got to bed - it's 1.46 am but I can't sleep without it - well actually my wife can't sleep if I'm not wearing the mask.
The clinic is now closed until Monday so I'm officially up s**t creek.
Please can anyone tell me how to adjust the machine back to what it was before? And hopefully salvage my weekend!
Thanks,
Harvey

I take it they didn't give you the Setup instruction manual when you got the machine.....
These instructions have been posted many, many times on the forum, but here they are again.
My guess is that you're pressure is SUPPOSED to be 15 cm. and that's why they changed the machine. To actually set the starting pressure at 4 cm. is NOT good therapy.....especially if you NEED something in the neighborhood of 15 cm. If you need a pressure that high to clear an event (apnea or hypopnea) and your pressure is way down there, it's going to take quite a while to get there. In the mean time, you're not getting enough oxygen and your blood is desaturating.
I'm all for people taking control of their therapy, but without the software and card reader to download the data and see what's happening, it's not what I'd call "good" therapy. In other words, just because you've got an "Auto", doesn't mean it automatically goes to the right pressure. The bottom pressure needs to be VERY close to where it'll respond the quickest. Otherwise, use the machine in CPAP mode in single pressure.
That being said, you'll want to check ALL of the existing settings. Write them all down on a piece of paper to verify them with the setup instructions. If you have any questions, please come back here and ask.
Copy those instructions to a file on your computer so you'll have them.

Thanks Wulf. I've been chatting with HRH in the live room for a little while and he just wants to get to sleep. I think if we can get him through tonight, he can read and review the right thing to do for tomorrow night, or at least get some decent sleep until he can revisit his doctor on Monday.
HRH,
Please keep in mind that xPAP is not always comfortable and even though you used a low pressure for most of the past year, if it needs to go up to clear the majority of your apnea/hypopneas, please understand and adjust your machine correctly and make your body adjust to the new pressure. It is VERY important.
