chewed up nose!
the activa seems to have gouged some skin out of the side of my nose last night without my realizing it. I didnt notice till I looked in the mirror just now.
yes, I slept 12 hrs.
I should have been able to do that without being gouged.
it doesn't hurt
but what can I do to keep that from happening again?
moleskin? bandaid? ayr gel?

Catbirdgirl I use the actvia and this has happened to me alot. Not only on the side but also on the bridge of my nose. That is where the scar is,
Here are a few things I found helpful.
1) the mask sounds like it is either to tight or to lose. if it is to lose it will slide around and depending on how you sleep get into a postion where it should not be and gorge you good. If it is to tight then you can ge tthem marks from that to.
2) try to clean the cushion part and your face before bed. This way you have a clean seal and the oils from your face wont contribute to the sliding around if that is part of the problem
As for the gouge some anticatical ointment like cortazone will help. Just keep applying it threw out the day. Vasaline helps to in a pinch.
Hope this helps some.

IF it is an open sore, really angry looking and redness around it-or a firm area around it-see your doc.
If it is like an open blister-a triple antibiotic ointment should help-again if it doesn't see a doc.
If a reddened area that is not broken-protect it from pressure until gone. I like the blister strips made by Curad, Nexcare, or Bandaid. Moleskin is too strong an adhesive for use directly on the face. Don't remove the blister strips every day and they will come off easily in the shower-just roll the edge-let water run over it-roll some more etc. Also-don't put blister strips over open areas or you may mask signs of a beginning infection.
Skin problems can be from pressure AND shear effect. That is caused by the outer layer of skin sticking to the mask and sliding/shearing against lower, more fixed layers of tissue. It interferes with blood flow in small blood vessels.
A thin layer of vaseline just over as small an area as possible can help. Just don't apply to much or over too large an area or your mask may slide too easily.

The only way I can get my Activa to stick to my face is to slather on some pure lanolin all around where the mask touches. It is real sticky stuff and good for your skin. I still get pressure marks on my nose but it hasn't blistered up since I started using lanolin. Unlike vaseline, which is a petroleum product, lI don't think lanolin will damage your mask. I hated washing my face and not putting any moisturizer on it for the whole night. I still have some leaks, but not nearly as bad as it was before.

slept with the swift, it appears to be helping the chewed up spot by not stressing it further. not sure I like it as much now that I've been using the activa, but I also didn't get enough sleep.
suggestions would be welcome to figure out how to prevent this, though. I'll try to keep both masks clean and ready to sleep in in case of sore skin in one place or another, but I'd like to avoid owies of all kinds.

jsmythe,
For those of us over, uh... 30, we don't need to go a whole night without moisturizer. I have to tape my mouth to prevent air leaking out. I cut pieces of lip shaped soft, white paper ( I use the rolling sheets that come with perms) and put that over my lanolined lips and then the 2 inch ouchless tape over that. I wish there was a better way, but this is working for me.
