Heated Humidifier - On or Off?

Post by Hugh » Wed Jun 01, 2005 12:06 am

Problem: With the REMstar Auto (and perhaps other models of xPAP), one cannot easily see green LED lamp that indicates whether or not the heated humidifier is on or off. In my case, the machine is about 5 inches off the floor right next to my bed. When in bed and looking down at the top of the machine, the LED is hidden from view. Of course, the liquid crystal display shows this information, but seeing it involves putting on my bifocals and getting a flashlight. This I am too lazy to do.

Solution: Create a "mirror" under the LED lamp. Cut a piece of cardboard about 1" wide by 6" long. Stiffen one end by unfolding a paper clip and taping it to the underside. Cover that end of the strip with aluminum foil (shiny side out) and tape it in place. Bend up this end into a slight "hook." Slip this strip under the humidifier with the "hook" under the green LED. Now, the LED shines on the strip and one can easily see if the humidifier is on or off from the comfort of one's bed.

Moral of the story: Laziness is the mother of invention.

Great idea, I have forgotten to get a good look to see if the humidifier was turned back on after a trip to bathroom during the night, only to wake up later with a stuffy nose........Thanks for passing this info along, I also have my unit approx 8" off of the floor.

Wow. I'm impressed! Looks like we've found the Heloise of the cpaptalk forum!

Any more handy ideas?

Thank you very much Linda, but Heloise? I don't think so. Heloise was a woman - the mistress and wife of Abelard (circa 1098-1164). I have a very deep voice (used to sing bass in the church choir) and a very shaggy beard. Although, I do write romantic love letters to my dear wife from time to time. Perhaps you were thinking of someone else ...

I think she meant MacGyver. (sp?)

He was forever making devices out of chewing gum foil and paper clips. ....used those items to diffuse a bomb once, if I remember correctly. Or, wait, maybe he used it to make a bomb.....
