I hope everyone reading the article notes that they are talking about central sleep apnea not obstructive sleep apnea. As the article notes central is rare compared to the prevalent obstructive sleep apnea.
In my personal experience, Ambien can make obstructive sleep apnea much worse!

Found this article on another forum, interesting research finding--based on the results of this study, CSA is significantly reduced by Ambien.

Thanks for the link. I am seeing my doc tomorrow morning to talk about central apnea, which I have. Ambien, which I have taken for extended periods in the past, builds up in my system and causes sleepiness during the day. The first time that I took the full dose I fell asleep at a traffic light. Never happened to me before or since. 2.5mg are enough to give me a sound sleep but not help me wake up refreshed.

Ambien is supposed to make OSA worse. I've been taking it for a number of years for 5 days a week (10 mg). 10 days ago I tried skipping it and out of 10 nights, I took 10 mg 1 night and 5 mg another and was able to skip it the rest of the time. And, voila, my AHI dropped and I was able to drop my pressure range.
