64 dollar question.

Post by ablong » Thu Nov 29, 2007 6:43 pm

Please feel free to make comment.
I have a Remstar Plus (ins rental)
I have a Remstar Plus with C-Flex My purchase
I have a Remstar Auto with C-flex My purchase
After reading the numbers from the auto for a month
or two I belive all of the machine provide the proper
therapy.

These are classic tank models.

So here is the question is the extra features of the
tank Bi-vap which is being phased out worth the extra
money as it is nearly twice the price of the Auto. I need to
get off the fence because the supply is going away.

Thanks Allen

I assume you meant "Bi-PAP", rather than "Bi-vap".....

Do you have any special conditions that would make it necessary to use Bi-PAP therapy?.......like higher pressures or aerophagia?
(You didn't say what your pressure was)

Other than having spares as backup machines, I wouldn't spend money on therapy technology I didn't need.

question

No problems except even with cpap and no leaks my o2 levels fall
off somestimes to low 80's . My auto is set at 8-15 and never
rises above 13 My sleep Dr loaned me a bi-pap auto and finaly
told me to add 1-2 liters of o2 to the cpap mask I dont think he could
justify asking the ins for a bi-pap. Most of ins co want to have treatment
but no comfort. I have a 1500 dollar durable medical equip. limit and they will only use the local dme. Makes me want to buy what I want when I want
where I can get good service. I t works out that our host sends me a machine next day with free delivery on anything he has in stock.

Thanks Den for the comments.

Your call......

I've never asked them, but I'm not sure whether a person can buy a Bi-PAP without that specified on a prescription.

Do you have a prescription for a Bi-PAP?

question

Its the practice of our host to take any valid cpap script and
use for any of the x-pap they sell. A little plastic and a phone call
and it would be here monday. I do have Flex spending at work
but it would have to wait till after the first of the year. In the mean
time the numbers of the tank auto bi-vap continues to fall and I think
that will be all of that model.

again thanks for the advice

I don't think that is correct. As I understand it, you need only a CPAP Rx for a CPAP or APAP ... but you need a BiPAP Rx in order to get a Bilevel machine.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

I have a prescription for an apap. I uploaded to cpapauction in order to purchase a cpap for back up purposes in case mine went down. I was told I was allowed to bid only on apap's and NOT cpap's or other xpap machines. I still have the email they sent me verifying this information. I don't know about a cpap prescription but would think it would work the same way.

That is correct. I verified that about a year ago with CPAP.COM. You can purchase an APAP with a CPAP prescription, but you cannot purchase a CPAP with an APAP prescription.

A follow-up to the questions of Bi-PAP prescriptions:

I e-mailed CPAP.COM and got a response.

I forgot to look at the FAQs.....it's in there, too.

https://www.cpap.com/cpap-faq/Prescriptions.html#132

This is basically cut and pasted (with a little editing) from the e-mail response I received:

You have to have a Cpap rx to buy a Cpap
You have to have a Bipap rx to buy a Bipap.
You can buy an Auto Cpap with either an Cpap rx or a Auto Cpap rx.
You can buy an Auto Bipap with either an rx for Auto Bipap rx or Bipap rx.
To purchase a Bipap ST, Avaps, Bipap Auto SV you must provide a Bipap ST prescription.

Thank you all for your replys. To be forewarned is to be fore armed
and I may have to DR shop but I dont think its a problem.

RG do I read you right that you are treated with the auto
but use the bi-pap for the confort level.

Thanks Allen
