Feeling bad again

Post by chriml » Wed Nov 28, 2007 8:51 pm

I have been using a cpap machine for about 8 months now . I am 100 compliant in using my machine and was doing well up until now. For the last 4 weeks I have been finding my mask off of me or on my far head. I have been so restless at night. I keep track of my data. I just did my data and the sleep statistics say
Avg time of apnea per day is 4.3
Average leak per day 49.4
Avg. AHI 3.0
Cpap pressure is 9.0
My data has been getting worse and Im so tired again. When Im tired I get depressed and feel it is hopeless to use the machine. (BUT I DO).
Any suggestions or support would be appreciated.

Mouth-leaking would be my guess.

Tape, Polident denture adhesive strips or full face mask are solutions for that.

You have to find a way to keep you mask on, also you must keep the leak rate down. It won't work if you don't use it correctly, you may have to go to a FF mask and bolts and Mittens. Jim

You average time in apnea per day and your leak rate are both too high. It could be a mouth leak, but it could also be a worn out mask, or another leak in the system.

If you haven't changed your seal since you got it, I would start out by soaking it for about 8 hours in a 1 part vinegar 3 parts water solution.

And - could you be suffering from nasal congestion? That could make treatment less effective, and cause mouth opening - or removing the mask.

I think Den may be right ... you are likely leaking out of your mouth cuz 49 is about double your leak rate for that mask at that pressure.

You need to figure out how to keep that yapper shut while asleep or do as Jim suggests and find yourself a full face mask that fits and does not leak.

... and ozij also makes good points and suggestions.

So looks like I have nothing to contribute except encourage you to hang in there and hope you figure it out.
