My Sleep Doctor

I went to see my sleep disorder doctor, who is also my auto-immune disease doctor, yesterday and I asked him about full face masks. I told him about the mask I have and when I asked him about the Hans Rudolph mask, he couldn't say enough about it.

Seems he was given a Hans Rudolph to sleep with when he was interning in the sleep disorder specialty. He says it is the best on the market and he wangered why I didn't have that one I told him.

So now I have my doctor's approval for the Hans Rudolph.

The Ultra Mirage FF is the reason my future husband and I are not sleeping.

My mask keeps him awake and he is also on a CPAP.

This is why I am going for the Hans Rudolph the Ultra Mirage is junk in my book and will not recommend it.

I, too am having CONSTANT leakage problems with my Ultra Mirage FF mask. I have been putting 2 extra bands all the way around my head and the mask to keep it from lifting off. ( I tried your ingenious toilet seat cover too and still had problems.) I'm tired of the red lines and dents on my face and nose!

I bought a Fisher & Paykel FlexiFit HC431 FF mask and like it much better, but still have some leaks (but not nearly as bad as those with the Ultra Mirage FF). It's such an unpopular mask for users on this forum... and the Ultra Mirage FF is very popular, which goes to show that everybody's face/head/nose/cheeks/etc. are different!

Let us know how the Hans Rudolph works for you.

My Ultra Mirage FF mask starts out great when I go to sleep with my bottom pressure of 9cm but leaks like crazy when the pressure increases on the APAP. I love my Mirage Activa but have to lightly tape my mouth to prevent air from "puffing" through my lips. I would love to have a non-leaking FF mask. Does such a mask exist?

There is probably a different "favorite" mask for every person in here, but the main trick is to wash the mask in warm water to which either baby shampoo or vinegar has been added, and to do this every day to remove skin oils. (See the thread about Cleaning...) And don't forget to wash your face before putting on the mask. On someone's suggestion I bought a bottle of Neutragena face wash for this purpose. nutragena and babay shampoo will remove the oils without damaging the mask seal and will rinse without leaving a residue.

FWIW, I tried the nasal pillows, but my nose is a bit uneven and one nostril kept getting mashed. Now I'm using a Fischer-Paykel FlexiFit HC405 and really do like it!!! It's a very small nasal mask that comes apart into 3 pieces for washing, one piece of which cannot not get wet and does not get washed.

Neversleeps, I will let you know how I like the mask.

I am to take my machine, tubing and old mask with me. I even asked them if they had a bed I could lie on and I was told no, but they do have a recliner. I am taking my pillow with me also.

The new DME was chuckling, but they understand why and have nothing against this. They were glad I asked if I could to this and now they are going to recommend this to others that come to them brand new.

Tom cannot wait until I can get a new mask and the noises stop. He knows there is leakage but the obsenity needs to stop.

That will not work for us. He is medium to large and I am Small to Extra Small.

It worked perfect holding the mask to my face with a pressure of 11(not with headgear)

TH, when you said "holding the mask to my face" (not with headgear) are you talking about holding it to your face with your hand? If so, even the worst, leakiest masks I've ever tried can be perfect when I hold them in place with my hand. It's when the headgear and the cushion designs themselves have to do the job that problems pop up, unfortunately.

When you think about how wonderfully ResMed's Activa nasal mask seals for most people, with the straps very loose, that's the way cushions should be designed, imho.

I can't imagine a headgear that would effectively keep the Hans Rudolph mask from being prone to leaks. I think it's the cushion design itself that is lacking in that expensive mask. Hope it works for Severeena and for anyone else who tries it. Sure didn't for me.
