Full Face Mask Question

Post by CarrieS » Sat Nov 24, 2007 12:12 pm

Okay my Full face mask adventures are getting easier and Im doing pretty well with the transition despite a few issues that Im able to fix. However holy cow is mouth just disgusting and miserable feeling in the morning I thought it was bad having cottonmouth on my nasal mask before and now its like I have cottonmouth all over my lips what an awful crusty dried up sensation. I take of my mask lick my lips and whala its gone but throughout the night I wake up sometimes and its very aggravating to feel so...well...yuck. Is there anyway around this...its the same senasation of your eye getting crusted shut (due to an infection, or scratch etc) but on my mouth...blah. Ive tried putting a dap of Bag balm or vaseline on but doesnt seem to fix it and I have my humidifier up enough I think.

I have the same set-up as you do (Resmed S8 Vantage , 3Hi and the Liberty). What number is your humidifier set at? Also, do you use distilled water in the humidifier? What is your pressure setting (APAP or CPAP)?

BTW - Did you doctor presribe you the software and card reader? Did you insurance cover those items?

Im in dry Michigan and I use distilled water and make sure to fill it to the fill line otherwise I dont get enough. I have it about 3/4 of the way up if I turn it up further seems that i get rainout, or sudden moisture around the seal. Im on APAP mode, my doc nor insurance had nothing to do with me getting the software I got it myself.

PS
You dont have cottonlip then I assume? I wasnt sure if that was normal, to be expected or something I could fix so its great to talk to someone with the same setup.

No. I have not had that problem, but you seem to be doing all the things I would have suggested.

When I first started out I used a full face mask and had some of the same experience with not dry mouth -- but with very dry lips that would feel like the were "coated" and chapped. It took a couple of weeks and then got better -- hope yours does too.

I put on a ton of chap stick before I put the mask on, and this seems to help me out..I also live in a very dry climate and use my humidifier.
