OT - CD or DVD ??

Post by Slinky » Mon Nov 12, 2007 7:53 am

I know this is off-topic but my 'puter guru is working outta town today. How does one tell the difference between a blank CD and a blank DVD?

Wasn't it kind of stupid to make them all look alike? Or is there a visible difference I'm not seeing?

I've copied CDs before w/no problem and DVDs too. But I've run out of one type of empty CD/DVD and have just a new batch here that I don't know which they are. Yet when I try to copy I get one of two different messages: either this write disk is not the same kind as the copy disk or the drive doesn't recognize the write disk at all. Mostly I copy music CDs to my flash drive to use in the car. But these I want to copy are data disks.

The DVD should say DVD on it somewhere, I don't have one available to be sure though...

Thanks, Tuna ... I don't see anything on either the disk I'm trying to copy - or the blank disks I have here that say DVD ... darned if I know what type of blanks I have here!!!! I "thought" they might be DVDs but ... I have 3-4 of some older ones that "have" to be CDs cause I bought and used them before I got this CD/DVD R/W drive. I guess I just wait for my 'puter guru to get back in town before trying to buy and new disks and have him check things out for me.

In a Burning program like NERO, you can tell by the size of the data line you can burn.
