the advice you're receiving here is excellent...10 months ago, the RT just plunked a cheapo, bare bones basic machine down in front of me and said, 'here's your cpap'...i hadn't found this forum yet and had no idea there were options, never mind what those options were...with the help of the kind people here i was finally able to upgrade to a much better machine--but it took 9 months!! i had all the advice and all the information but no co-operation from my doctor or my supplier, till very recently, when i think they just got tired of all my bitching...you've already succeeded beyond what i did: no amount of prodding or pushing would convince my dr. to prescribe an apap, -- i'm in canada and the system works a little differently here--but you have the advantage in that you can tell your doctor what you want, not the other way around...

so, my advice is to take the advice you've been given and run with it...nowhere will you find more supportive, more educated people when it comes to this therapy and once you have the equipment they've all recommended, you will have support and guidance around that, too...case in point, wulfman, rested gal and willsucceed practically walked me through every step of obtaining the right machine and poor wulfman is still walking me through tweaking my therapy...the generosity i've found here is boundless, but you have to be willing to work with these folks to make your therapy work for you, otherwise all the advice in the world is pointless

make it count...

If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got...

And, doesn't take "nights off".
Just (like I think someone else mentioned) make sure that this one is not just a "loaner".....and that it's an outright replacement. Because, in this therapy, the Auto they're getting you is a "KEEPER".

Daddy, Daddy, Daddy........

Failure is not an option!!!!

Auto with A-Flex is the right direction - congratulations!!!
Never take no for an answer from either the Doc or the DME.
The DME is in business to make profits for their stockholders -- that's their job. Managing your treatment is your responsibility - and you have to understand that, for the most part, they really don't care -- especially if it will adversely affect their bottom line.
In the first couple months of my treatment, I constantly had to remind my DME (a pretty good one by the way) that I really wasn't concerned with their profits - my concern was with my treatment and they were going to do as requested (I worked closely with my doc to prescribe precisely what I wanted - and she concurred and wrote the prescription I requested. Fortunately I had found this site and knew exactly what to ask for!!!!)

Read, read, read - knowledge is power.
Watch the video that Ozij and Slinky have posted -- watch it over and over (like a lot of us have) because each time you will glean more information regarding your affliction!!!

Stay with it -- you'll find a mask that will work - the most important thing is that you continue to try!!!!! Others may have better advice, but for a belly sleeper I would think a Breeze or a Headrest would be a good option for a mask.....(I'm not a belly sleeper so I'm just guessing). I use the Headrest.

Good luck - and keep us up on how you're doing -- we wouldn't be "beating on you" if we didn't care!!!!

cheers

Go, Daddy, Go!

The classic RemStar Auto with C-Flex is what I have, and I'm very pleased with it. The A-flex option in the M-series is supposed to be better, but C-Flex will make a huge difference, and from what I've seen, the humidifier design on the older design (the "classic", or "tank" or "pre-M") machines is better. If that's what you're getting, your humidifier will fit.

You'll be amazed at how much easier it is to tolerate the pressure. That doesn't mean you won't still have problems, like mask fitting. It's a little like peeling an onion, but getting the C-Flex is a huge step. Just keep working at it.

Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity.

Hi guys - n00b here.

My husband has been complaining that within the past few months I've started snoring terribly. Meanwhile I have recurring dreams of drowning, choking or otherwise suffocating. So I put 2 and 2 together and figured I might have apnea, but have been dragging my feet on getting a sleep study.

My father-in-law was diagnosed a few years ago, and his Dr. ordered him an APAP machine, so he had this CPAP lying around that he's not using. Curiosity got the best of me yesterday and I borrowed the thing. After lots of reading and tinkering with the mask to get it to fit I went to bed. Holy cow, what a difference it made. I went to bed around 10 and woke up two hours later ready to jump in the shower. I couldn't believe it was midnight - I thought I'd slept through an entire night, I felt so refreshed. I made myself go back to sleep and hubs commented that he didn't hear a sound from my side of the bed all night. I haven't had to take a nap today, close my eyes at a red light to get a mini-nap (yes I do that on the way to work), etc.

So I'm wondering if it's working well, is it a bad idea to "cheat" and just use someone else's CPAP? Could it do any harm? I'm thinking I'm in more danger without it - especially driving!

Georgia, instead of replying to your post I am going to suggest that you repost it as an entirely new thread of your own. It might well get lost in this thread and not get the response you need and want.

As an aside I am DELIGHTED that you got such great relief on your first try totally unaided. And figuring out how to make someone else's mask work for you .... ??? FANTASTIC!!! I am REALLY impressed!!!

Do you have ANY idea of what a FREAK chance it was that you hit both a pressure that worked for you AND a mask you could make work???

You rock, girl!!!!
