Concerned about my Girlfriend

Post by Flying_Norseman » Tue Oct 09, 2007 3:09 pm

My GF has many of the symptoms of Sleep Apnea and has made an appointment with a sleep clinic, but they can't see here until January. She was telling me about struggling to stay awake while driving today and I got really scared for her because I remember the feeling. Is there anything she can do in the meantime? I am worried something bad will happen before she gets to do the sleep study.

For the record, she doesn't fit the standard OSA profile. I think she has central apneas if I remember the term right. She breathes really shallowly at night and I used to wonder if she was breathing at all.

Get the software and reader, and run your own sleep lab, her quality of treatment won't be much worse than the normal food chain and it would be quicker. Jim

Yeah we could try using my machine, but I don't know if any of my masks would fit her. Maybe we will give that a shot this weekend.

Goofproof is right....DIY.

You might even consider an SPO 7500 oximeter from Turner Medical. My lady has symptoms.....and we did a 20+ night study....which confirmed what we suspected. She has a breathing problem at night.

A FF mask would be the best bet as it by-passes the mouthbreathing problems, 6 cm to 10 cm is pretty avg place to start.

Call the sleep lab every day and ask if there are any cancelations. I got in 2 months early by doing that. A lot of times offices will charge a fee for not showing up without canceling by phone 24 hours in advance. So usually people call and cancel if they cant make it....leaving room for someone else to jump in and take their place.

Thanks for the tips all. I think when I get my card reader, we will try her out with a FF mask and see what it reads. Plus, Titration sounds kind of kinky anyway...
