Hello,
I'm a partner rather than a sleep apnea person myself but here goes.
My husband was diagnosed about 2 years ago. We have struggled with various masks, etc. He has a Respironics but doesn't use the humidifier any longer.
He is snoring now and he needs to nap during the day and I can tell things aren't working the way they should. His primary care doctor is kind of lame and the medical equipment place (OK, it's Apria) is less than helpful. I was thinking of a new sleep test but I think he would never go for it. Any ideas?
thank you in advance.
snoring with mask
audible snoring can indicate mouth breathing if using a nasal mask, if that is the case his therapy pressure is escaping the mouth and not splinting his airway open.
He would have to duct tape his mouth shut or use a Full Face mask. If you wanted to stop the snoring I would try increasing the pressure by 1 or 2 cm.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Unless you can observe him and tell that he's losing the CPAP pressure (like his mouth is hanging open), I would think that his current pressure is not set high enough. He either needs a re-titration (another night @ the sleep lab to see if his current settings are good or if he needs to be adjusted a little) or an auto-titrating CPAP (machine that evaluates breathing and moves pressure up or down on its own).
