LASTNIGHT'S STAT'S SAY I HAD NO, APNEA'S, LIKE 0 !!??

Post by Guest » Thu Oct 04, 2007 12:35 am

Hello, this morning I took my smart card out of the machine and brought in to the computer room and downloaded my Night Stats using James Skinner's Encore Analyzer and I almost fell over backwards when I read the results , Is it possible to HAVE "NO" SLEEP APNEA'S ???????? Or, did I do something wrong such as have alot of leaks that maybe the machine didn't pick-up, etc! I will give you the Night Stat Report Results, I don't know how attach it so I will just type it in. Here goes: Total Evevts: 4, Total Obstructive Apneas: 0 Total Hypopenias: 4 Total Flow Limitations: 19, Total Snores 76, Time In Apnea: 0 seconds AHI: 0.7, Flow Limitation Index: 3.1, Max Leak (LPM): 79 , 90% Leak: 42.0 (LPM), Average Leak: 30, Large Leak: 0 ... Do you think maybe my mask wasn't on secure enough? I have used CPAP somewhere between 42 - 46 days , I have never a day "GONE WITHOUT HAVING APNEA'S" !!!!! Even if I take a 2 hour nap, I usually have around 4 apnea's... If this information is indeed correct, I am very Happy and I PRAY the Apnea's will stop over time for good, it would be totally awesome to get off the hose. I have a deviated septum and need the surgery as well as the UPPP thing. What do all the PRO's think? What's your opinion & thought's "SNOREDOG" ??? I will appreciate any feedback the hosehead community has to offer, Thanks forum family

Perfectly normal while on the machine, that is what it is supposed to do, a "Normal" person could easily have a higher AHI score.

You had some "short" periods of Max leak of 79L/m, that is getting up where the machine won't respond to events it sees, in the presence of that much leak the machine will stop responding and start ramping down with pressure if it is up. If you look at your Daily report under Leak, you should see some solid black tics where that Max leak took place. Sometimes it can be from adjusting the mask when you first start therapy.

But your 90% leak and avg. leak looks fine, don't know what kind of mask you are using but 42L/m is not bad, certainly not enough leak there to skew any data.

How you feel is the most important part.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Thank You SnoreDog for the information, I really appreciate the help. I had to pull the mask off lastnight after 2 hours, it just wasn't working, it was a strange night, it was like I wasn't getting strong enough air and I would doze and then wake right back up so I just took it off and I don't ever do that. I have a question, my smart card that the DME put in my new machine and sent me home with, IF I erase the data on the card, will it also erase my PRESSURE settings that the DME put on it? Will I need to somehow enter it back into the CPAP MACHINE and the SMART CARD ???? .... If so, how would I do that ? And how can I go to the CPAP and change my pressure setting? I have the Remstar Auto and I think the pressure is set on 9 and the Ramp is set on 4 and I would like to set that on 5 , the AUTO is set on 4/20 I'm afraid I will mess it all up as I am left handed and always seem to do everything backwards, it's not really funny, sometimes it creates problems like taking an hour to figure out directions, etc and the apnea on top of that dosen't help either ! Thanks Snoredog, I appreciate all the info I can get, Take Care

No. IF your DME made a program change on you card to be uploaded into your machine, the moment you turned your machine on, it was "sucked" into your machine and the changes were made.....then removed from the card. Your card does NOT retain those settings.

If you make changes to your machine.....or even go into the "Setup" menu, be sure to got through all of the menus and write EVERYTHING down....all the menu options and what their settings are......before ever attempting to make any changes. That way, you'll have a record of it.

The machine's settings are still in the machine......the machine only stores the nightly data to the card (it doesn't store a copy within the machine).

Said another way:
If you erase the smart card, the data on the card will be gone, but the CPAP pressure settings, etc. will remain in the machine.

Great forum. One thing I never see discussed here. Some mornings the machine shows AHI that is very much lower than usual. Well I lay awake most of that night. So if you take the breathing incidents over an hour or two of sleep and divide them by seven or eight hours, you get a low AHI! Not good.
